LoVett Injury

It's not anything brilliant , but I said from the get go that one of the things that could derail any NCAA hopes is a nagging injury to any rotation player and especially a key player. This could have negative consequences to our season in general if this goes on any further. We must win all of our winnable games.

It’s so true. This team in many ways reminds me of our last team to go to the NCAA’s. That team had a thin margin as well. Playing without Jordan many games made it harder and playing without Obekpa in the NCAA’s did us in. With or Without Lovett (was thinking of the U2 song) we have to win the next two but it’s only two weeks until Providence.

Praying he heals and this isn't a season-long and lingering issue. Must not rush him. We should win the Iona and St. Joe's games without Marcus. But we need him desperately for the BE Season. I'd get him ready for the Providence game.

Agree that it's best not to rush him, but it generally takes a player recovering from an injury a few games to get back into the flow. Assuming he is healthy, I'd like to at least see LoVett play against St. Joes so he is in game shape for Providence.

Without LoVett in the lineup, neither of the next two games are "gimmes."

Agree that Marcus shouldn't play until he is fully healthy. On the other hand, I wouldn't hold him out until the Providence game if he is ready to play against Iona and/or St. Joe's. Shamorie and Simon played 80 and 78 minutes respectively against Grand Canyon and ASU. I wouldn't want to see them play those kind of minutes against Iona & St. Joe's heading into a tough start to the BE season. As others have said, Iona scares me a bit. Yes, we should beat them with or without Marcus, but they are very well coached and will look at this game as one of the biggest games of their regular season.

Key injuries like Marcus' can also derail teams that otherwise seem deep (See Kennedy, DJ) but provided Marcus heals well it might be good for the team chemistry and effort in general to have to work harder without him for another game or two, just not for much longer than that.

No truth to report Marcus LoVett is out until January, I'm told by multiple people at St. John's. The hope is he plays Wednesday, but staff thinks he'll be ready for Big East opener. #sjubb
