LoVett scored a game-high 19 points vs. Seton Hall. #MarchToMSG

Seems like Ponds, Lovett, and Patton are the primary candidates for BE ROY right now. Wonder if Ponds and Lovett are going to split some votes and that will help Patton.

I believe historically the player with the most weekly honors prevails. Not completely sure though. At this point Ponds leads pack with four.

Interesting. Looking just at our guys, amazing how close and impressive their numbers are across the board. The efficiency from both is just astounding. Lovett is currently just shy of tossing up a 50/40/80 as a freshman playing the game at the speed at which he plays it. That's incredible rate production from any position let alone a point.

As the team is starting to gel his assists numbers are going up. If he stays one more year and keeps his shooting percentages where they are now and can get his assists up to 5-6 a game, I think he can be a late second round pick. Far from playing in the league but a shot.

Best Freshman backcourt tandem in SJU history and possibly most impactful across class levelsl in modern era IMO. With not a lot of help around them, their numbers are stellar.

Agree, and not that it was ever an issue but think last 5 games or so (beginning with @PC) they are really starting to play off each other in addition to with each other, and that includes defensively. Makes them even more difficult for teams to deal with.

One more year :)

I'm surprised to see so much discussion of "one more year..."

For a couple of small guards, a couple years on campus to train and add muscle seems like a good idea. And with a good competitive season next year followed by a significant tournament run the following year, the chances of a legitimate NBA pay check might be more realistic.

Or course, that scenario has more to do with my own selfish interests...

I think you have to draw a big distinction between Ponds and Lovett. Ponds came to college at 18. Lovett came to college at 19 and is a year ahead as he sat out a year. Lovett is now the age of a Junior. If he stays one more year he will be the age of a Senior. He has aspirations to be a professional basketball player and to leave at the age of a Senior would not be strange even for a small player. As he is two years older than Shamorie he is more physically mature and has a mature personality that makes me think he can handle what comes next. I wouldn't be shocked if he left after this year but agree that another year of college basketball makes sense for him and hope that we can make the NCAA's next year. If he plays better next year then he really would have to evaluate staying his Junior year. I don't see any way that he is here as a Senior. Shamorie has three more years to develop and don't think his game and personality translates to professional basketball at all at this point. I think he will be a four year player and will be one of our all time leading scorers and steals leader if he stays healthy. If we can put talent around him we are in great shape.

While possible, I find this to be unlikely. A lot of kids don't like school but Lovett worked hard to become eligible and seems very articulate. His goal is to play in the NBA and if he has to take another year of classes to do that I am sure he will. He is majoring in liberal studies and not quantum physics.

Anyone see Jawun Evans of Oklahoma State play? He is a 6'1 sophomore point guard that is projected to be drafted in the second round of the draft. Has statistics similar to Lovett but with more assists.

I watched his highlights from a game against Oklahoma last year and he scored more than 40 points. Also was a McDonalds All America. Much more under control and a better passer. Has some of Ponds floater shots and basketball genius to go with the speed of Lovett. Really good player.

How do you know ,w his height, he may think the NBA is a reach and would like the immediate paycheck playing overseas.? My gut tells me he will stay 1 more year. I'm not convinced he knows what he will do at this point of time. Probably will evaluate his options when the season ends.
