Looking Ahead... too early?

Well, it is a starting point. You have to believe they will get better as the season goes on, much like last years team. This team has more basic talent and should improve greatly with every game being a learning experience. Never the less it will be an enjoyable ride. I'll sign for 8 and 3 now but would like 9 and 2.

I've watched two games in person now, and I honestly don't think we've seen enough to say they will beat any halfway decent big conference D1 team. They have little fluidity on offense, and it's hard to figure out who their money guys will be at this point. God's gift was physically stronger than anyone Lehigh or William and Mary had, so I'd reserve judgment until he goes up against some 69 or taller talented big men. They are very athletic, and may put it together and start functioning as a capable Big East team. All in all while it's too early to tell, I'd say we are in for a rough ride.

Ever think they are like a lot of other teams that play to the level of competition?

8-3 is certainly a fair though best case scenario at this point in time.
Harkless, Nuri and Gift have all been the goods so far. Dominic is doing what he does well. If DeAngelo can start shooting the ball better and Phil can give a little more of what he gave in the exhibition games we will be fine. Growing pains and a brutal schedule for a team that was short-changed 3 key players in September.

We should all be ecstatic if we finish our first 11 games going 8-3. For an all frosh team only going 6 deep with scholarship-level players it would be a great place to start.

That may be true, but, like early last season, they are working on stuff that prohibits us from seeing what they can do. Combine that with the fact that they aren't playing grade "A" competition yet, and have 6 new guys. But, to be honest, my first impression is that unless the other freshmen become eligible, they are in for a very rough Big East season. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think this is a .500 team in conference, and maybe much worse. The athleticism of this group is impressive, though.

Again, it's way too early to tell.

Yes, it is way too early to predict any W-L but IMO A key player for some upsets this year will be Harrison. If he is as advertised as a shooter, getting him open looks from the 3 will be key in most games. If his shooting suffers, we will see some blowouts (UK/UCONN/PITT/Cuse). The other factor will be free throws. In the four games I have seen, the free throws have been pretty close to horrible. I think concentration is a factor there and would love to know what these kids FT shooting % was in high school. That would tell me if this is an inherent weakness or first game nerves. I expect a blowout against UMBC using our running game alone but I want to see FT and 3 point shooting improve in this game.

Moose, I think your analysis is sound concerning Harrison, but let's also remember at this point last season, we had no clue that Hardy would emerge as the main scorer and Brownlee passing Kennedy as well as the main options. When we lost to Fordham, I was one of the very few on here still on board with this team, and repeatedly proclaimed last years team was vastly different than the NR teams.

I think that FT shooting is a big concern, as noted above, but also an area that I am certain our staff is addressing immediately. My guess is that on nights where we bring it and aren't overwhelemd by talented size and depth, this team will provide thrills. On other nights, they will look like freshmen playing for a team without enough depth. In the end, they will be much better than the beginning, and it will be a solid start to build on. All in all, I would be surprised (shocked) if they surpass what last year's squad accomplished, which for me ranks as one of the top 5 Redmen squads that I've followed - maybe even top 3.

That wasn't my analysis :)
