LJ Figueroa

Heron just turned 21. He a little old and I doubt he would test the waters and return to school. He’s suited for a career overseas.

My question is does Simon return or leave as a grad transfer?
Wish MH the best, but really seems like his chance of being a first round NBA draft pick next year is low. Much better off coming back for his year in the spotlight 2019-2020, unless he is happy to go overseas.
I'm not sure if you follow the NBA draft, but it's very rare for seniors to be taken in the first round. The NBA drafts off potential, so mostly you see Freshman, sophomores and foreign players in the first round.

Simon is a wild card. Unless anyone on here knows him and what factors are most important to him in life, it's hard to know what his decision will be like.

Heron isn’t on 2nd round draft boards. Team take risks and Euros. He needs to have big games during the Big East to get some recognition. As a fan, I would love him to stay and prove himself. I don’t know his situation, but he can make good money in Europe. It be nice to see him get training camp invites, summer league, etc. Hard to see him staying his senior year turn 22 and go into his first pro season going on 23 years old.

As far as Simon, needs to develop a consistent jump shot and mid range game. The arguement is he shoots at a high % and 40 % from 3, but he doesn’t shoot outside with pressure. His shots come from the paint. It would do him well to return. He’s a pro prospect if he can develop this. Like it was said he’s a wildcard.

I actually think that if Heron stays, Simon leaves.

I wonder why Simon would leave since he has a great spot here and could have a fun and meaningfully senior year with his current teammates and friends (?)

Simon is the best chance to return v Heron at this point from staff perspective recently. Let’s see what season & recruiting brings since this is always a fluid situation.

I do follow the NBA draft and understand that it is unusual for NBA first round picks to be seniors. However, there are cases where talented juniors return for their senior year and better their NBA prospects by doing so. Malcolm Brogdon of UVA comes to mind. He had a solid, but not spectacular junior year and returned to be ACC player of the year as a senior. Wound up being drafted at top of second round in 2016 (36 overall) and has had a very solid three year career to date with the Bucks. Brogdon was actually 23 going on 24 when he started his rookie year.
I sense from other posters that Heron is unlikely to return and that is fine especially if he is happy to play overseas. I only mentioned it because his prospects of getting drafted (whether in first or second round) would seem to improve if he were to have a bang up year as the main guy on a SJU NCAA tourney team next year. Who knows, maybe he has a great season this year and gets drafted in first or second round - wish him only the best.

LJ Figueroa said his knee is fine, landed awkwardly late in game. #sjubb
Zach B

I was worried when Gillespie rolled over his leg in awkward position. Thankfully no issues.

Does that mean we can't have an "LJ Injury Status" thread?

That was an interesting foul on Figgy. He is laying out of bounds, and Gillespie steps on him. How can you commit a foul while lying on the ground out of bounds?

He undercut Gillespie, that's why Gillespie landed on him.

Why cant we have a season where the only players we lose are seniors? Heron, Simon, and LJ would be solid foundation. Would love to see Ponds stay and win the Big East and go deep in NCAA tourney!!!
Come on fellas, stay together!!
