Let's stop bullying bad spellers

Thanks Beast
Furthermore people of all educational levels can misspell
"No biggie"
I makey share of mistakes and as a perfectionist - don't like it but trying to chill and not proofread every damn thing
AND
Sometimes as we know the 'brain' in the cell/ computer corrects words and changes them into something not intended...

Kindness, wow

pefect

I've never called anyone on their misspelling or poor grammar, but I do find it disconcerting, to say the least to see mistakes like "to much" or "their going" so consistently in a forum consisting mostly of college graduates or attendees. Mind you, were it not for an excellent primary school education, I might be as clueless about English usage and grammar, but I do agree, we ought to be kinder.

I gave up on misspellings and typos as a pet peeve about when I gave up on expecting turn signals to be used, and not putting an empty ice cube tray back in the freezer. Dyslexia notwithstanding (a terrible brain condition that truly causes hardship to those afflicted) I do find it interesting that correcting a spelling, grammar and typographical mistake is akin to mild bullying. Weren't the sticklers of our youths the bullied? Revenge of the nerds indeed. I for one don't correct or mock anyone as I can usually find errors in my own posts, but I do find this particular thread rather interesting as a social/communal discussion.

GLAD TO HEAR IT NEVER HURTS TO BE KIND

Beast, I think I agree with the spirit of your post. That said, I also believe the term "bullying" has become grossly overused. I am afraid we trivialize the most viscous and relentless attacks by categorizing nearly every unkindness (especially in schools) as "bullying".

Just my free two cents. :S

How could anyone bully Beest. He barely has time to read other posts besides the ones he is typing and he certainly wouldn't notice any bullying.

I agree with what someone said earlier....i don't consider correcting someone's spelling to be bullying.

In today's world, spelling and grammar mistakes really are inexcusable. Almost every device out there has some type of spell check. The only real exception should be an individual's name, in which case, I find it highly disrespectful to misspell someone's name.

BUT people need to spell our coaches name right or they go straight to hell
I need a ruling on this...
If our head coach was the intended subject, then I believe it should read "coach's". If the intended subject was the entire staff, then I think it should read "coaches'". Regardless, this may not even qualify as a spelling mistake, but as a punctuation issue. If that is the case, is this situation fair game for public humiliation?
Please clarify, as it's several months until Midnight Madness, and I need to fill the time with trivialities.

Paul, I just wonder how you and Beast have so much time to post stuff like this every day? Are you really the same person?

Are you calling me or Beast out as incoherent ramblers?

To answer your question, Beast is a much better person than I and has a lot more to say that is worth reading.
To answer the question, I keep a window open at work, and check it periodically. I post way too much, and probably should have been banned a long time ago.

How many floors up?

what is wrong with me that I am laughing hysterically?

Beast you set yourself up. We are NOT bullying you. Besides I have read more Beast of the East than Tolkien or Tolstoy. I'm not normal.
Reading more Tolkien or Tolstoy would not alter your level of normality, Gandalf

my punctuations are worst than my spelling

First off, read my post. I have said I'm guilty of it. Mullin is a simple name to spell, and until the past month, not everyone here is old enough to go back to his glory days. At this point everyone who reads here has seen his name thousands of times in print. It has gotten me thinking that some people have serious issues spelling, and to continually call them on it is mean spirited.

What I really have a problem with is the some of you who are continually mean spirited on here.

Mr. Masselli, are these 3 the names of hockey players?

No. Tolkien is a defenseman from Saskatchewan and Tolstoy is a speedy center from Russia. But Gandalf is a soccer star from Brazil.

Back on topic though, if we can't bully people for being spelling-challenged, what about bullying them for repetitive posting of blather and personal stories that they think makes them important but nobody else cares about? Because I think that kind of bullying should be allowed. Why should Fun get to have all the fun?
