He can question Shapiro/Hicks all he wants but he shouldn't be two faced and say Norm sucks and then write a puff piece about him days later after he insinuated to everyone at the party he was writing a piece calling Norm out.Vaccaro is the ONLY writer in this area when editorializing that TRULY called for Norm's head. PMG is absolutely right in that aspect AND the fact that in addition to Robbins, no other writer in this area besides Vaccaro called for his head ...
Vaccaro doesn't earn his living following St. John's, and, to a large extent, Robbins does. I like Vaccaro a lot, but to think he's somehow sticking out his neck by calling for Roberts' head is foolish. He has little to do with St. John's basketball, other than commenting on them when they happen to be making news; if he did, he probably -- if not undoubtedly -- wouldn't have been so boldly negative in his opinion of Norm. (And keep in mind: Robbins had developed a personal relationship with Roberts, something Vaccaro hadn't done.)
Back to the point: Norm Roberts is gone, Steve Lavin (thank God!) is here ... and Lenn Robbins is the guy who gives us more coverage than anyone else in the NYC area press. That's all that matters! And if Robbins questions Hicks' judgment in hanging out with Nevin Shapiro and the ill consequences thereof, or anything else for that matter, so be it. Whether or not you agree with his assessments, they're not subversive and not necessarily ill-conceived or unwarranted. Or would you prefer that he be more like one of those Lexington area yes-men who cover Calipari? I don't.
He was a nice guy at PMG's party no doubt about it but he is a phony.
If anything Lavin/Hicks deserved the benefit of the doubt more than Norm and I didn't even really care about the article that he wrote about with Hicks
But facts are facts and every person at the party that spoke to him can back me up about what he said about Norm. INo one forced him to write any puff piece.
