Did anyone watch? I didn't get a chance to see it
in the interview on redstormsports.com from yesterday, he refers to himself as the general manager and also praises his great staff.
it's worthwhile to watch...
didn't say anything new. but it sounds like he may be out for the season. says he has full faith in the staff while he is out recruiting.

Some thoughts:
Lav likened himself to a "general manager" last year also so his comment is consistent with how he views himself running the program;
He has not given any indication he will not or cannot return to coaching this season ...none!
IF he "cannot" return, it would be because of some serious side-effects from his surgery (incontinence) but would have nothing to do with the cancer. That said, I have know folks that do heavy labor that have returned within three months if they did not have serious side-effects. So, all the doom and gloom folks stirring the pot should be confident that there is no long-term cancer issue with Lav.
If he is out recruiting, he is actually doing the most important function at this time since we lost 4 talented recruits (Polee, Gathers, Norvel and Jakarr) that would have made this team a nationally ranked contender in 2012-13. If Lav brings in 2 or 3 recruits of that caliber.....especially Gathers and Sampson......along with the Woody kid and PG and back-up big, next year we will have forgotten about Lav's health issues, the 15 projected losses and the shake-up of the Big East.

Now this just might be my take on this, but the people who are "defending" Steve Lavin are actually doing Lavin as big a disservice as the knuckleheads hinting he is sicker than has been reported. Coach states he is cancer free and really it is no ones buisness to question him. The arm chair doctors that are quoting time tables for his return and discussing various very personal side effects of his surgery are just as bad as anyone claiming he is still sick or whatever. Who is to say when someone is recovered even if they are cancer free? Is every situation the same? Hell two people can have the same exact knee surgery and have different recovery periods. Let the man be!
You must be talking about Marco Baldi or Ricky Smith. I keep getting them confused between the 2 sites. Oh wait it's the same person so I guess it doesn't matterdidn't say anything new. but it sounds like he may be out for the season. says he has full faith in the staff while he is out recruiting.

That said, the negative publicity of Lav's absence is taking a toll on the program that most of you live and die for here. That negativity is obvious by a few "fans" in addition to non-SJ supporters. On JJ there are a couple of guys that make second-guessing Lav's condition a cottage industry. I think most know who they are.
I just watched the interview on dvr. Lavin looked and sounded great but didnt pinpoint a date for his return. He had a couple of funny lines too--- calling when Harkless takes the ball coast to coast "dribbling down Main St" and also called his very deep staff " the oceans eleven "....
Reading about Pitino retiring. Calhoun and Bohoem will also be retiring in the not to distant future. Even if Lavin misses this year, he is only in his 40s and should be coaching for a long time. The future looks good for SJU.

The "Pitino Retiring" story was a non-story! All he said was that he is 59 and did not expect to coach when his contract expires....IN SIX YEARS when he is 65.
Calhoun and Boeheim are both over 65 and my crystal ball tells me they may coach a couple of more years...at the least.
As for Lav, if you read all the opinions and comments over on JJ, he is (a) not returning this season...reported by non-other than We Are SJU who says we should "leave the man alone"..... So much for not spreading baseless rumors!
(b) leaving SJ for the west coast at the urging of his wife; (c) returning for the Providence game.....by non-other than Baldi......the first time he has been wrong; (d) resigning as head coach and becoming the assistant coach to Cluess; and finally, one that I will start here on redmen ...... "Dr. Scardino to Lav....."coach, I am one of the leading surgeons in America for prostate cancer......if you do not come back in a few weeks, my reputation will go in the toilet since prospective patients may say...."hey, that coach over at SJ had surgery over 4 months ago and still can't work!" Lav bites the bullet...buys a three month supply of male Depends, and comes back for the Louisville game at the world's greatest arena on January 3rd.
