Lavin to ASU ;)

If Lav leaves he leaves with a clean resume...Im sure another school will scoop him up right away. We all know he loves the west coast. ASU is not a reach. His ideal job probably would be Cal.

Respectfully disagree. Secondly, I wonder if he wants to continue in this racket v TV gigs. I know coaching would offer more $$, but quality of life may prevail.

If you are disagreeing about the clean resume point, our run of being in agreement has ended (but I'll still accept your invitation to your bowling team, Hurley's Hurlers).

Lavin brought us to two NCAA tournaments and two NITs in four full seasons of coaching--two of those years he coached with light rosters full of freshmen an sophomores. He graduated all five seniors--four early--and they all spoke glowingly of him.

To a neutral observer, Lavin rescued a program that had just one NCAA tournament appearance in nine seasons before Lavin arrived and rode off into the sunset after 21 wins and a rare tournament berth.

Wasn't referencing resume, just saying I doubt he wants to start somewhere else & may find TV gig more appealing. I also don't think he will be in big demand for high major job, but just my opinion. If he did land a job like that, I would wish him well.

Practice Thursday. Got your shirt. :)

I disrespectfully disagree.
Cal wouldn't hire Lavin if he offered to coach for free.
He has a well earned reputation as a terrible coach. ASU isn't going to touch him. Count on it.

Lavin was one of the names floating to replace Montgomery at Cal last year. ASU is a strange situation which may just serve Lavin. Massive university with unlimited resources but football first.

Herb Sendek is a totally professional basketball coach (who has produced more head coaches than anyone else in the game, believe it or not).

Lavin, not so much.

Why has he made 2 tournaments in 9 years then?

Herb is regarded as one of the best coaches of teams, his Achilles heel is he is a horrible sales person..

Surgically connecting Herb & Lav may work then. :)

Football yes, but this isn't USC. The football team is not a national power. As strange as this may sound I could see Arizona State considering him. It is a beautiful party school that players could easily be drawn to. Lavin still couldn't coach them but he could get players and I agree that he still has some cache left.

Saint John's would end up with Sendek's recruiting and full head of hair and Lavin's Xs and Os and wardrobe.

They haven't done much of anything with the X's and O's guy, so why not see if Lavin's non-lazy first recruiting season helps ignite something there?

I think the big issue for Lavin is that a Pac-10 team is already familiar with him, whereas a lot of St. John's fans saw his overall record and dismissed what UCLA fans were saying about him.

This thread is dumb, i'm not sure if Lav will be at SJU next year or not, but he's not going to be at ASU, It's between Capel or Pastner, i highly doubt both will turn it down.

I think it's got to be Pastner, but if Lavin actually lands an interview, I'm sure he can butter up administrators with the best of them

Anything can happen at that point . . . FH was impressed by Norm.

Don't think Capel will take that job.

Wells Fargo Arena is a ghost town for most ASU games. The average attendance is below 5K. The Devils don't even sell out their annual game with the U of A.
