Lavin to ASU ;)

Names mentioned along with Capel include both Lavin and Norm Roberts - as well as Archie Miller.

Telling commentary on how St. John's is perceived:

Steve Lavin: Time to come back to the West Coast, coach. St. John's is not the job it once was but the fans have the same expectations dating from the Lou Carnesecca era. Lavin proved he can recruit the west coast. He's brought the Storm back to the dance. He would be a great seller of the program in a city that desperately needs a personality to run the team.

Curious as to how the author can possibly believe Norm Roberts would do well at ASU?

I recall the knowledgeable posters on this board stating that no one would touch this guy. He's now getting better press than St. John's with our fan base being mocked.

Lavin has a very good agent.

The only person who would lobby for Lavin to be hired to coach their basketball program is someone who had never seen Lavin coach basketball. Because he's awful. There's an argument that can be made for not firing him, but there's no argument that can be made for hiring him.

How is the fan based being mocked? The quote basically said we have higher expectations, it didn't say we have "ridiculous or unreasonable" expectations.

I guess we'll find out. He could fit well there. They need to recruit California. He can do that. He will have his many friends in the national media pushing for him and his resume will stack up well against the other candidates

This was a risk with not extending him before the season.

Not yet - but the talk radio guys and friends like lupica will take it further

The pressure is on the school to make a better hire and shut them up

Guys being connected to jobs is one thing, reality another. Believe it when you see Lavin being interviewed. Much like extension rumors last year, agents can often do their jobs.

Good point. Lavin clearly starting to spin his story. Although the school's apparent indecision is not helping things.

If Lav leaves he leaves with a clean resume...Im sure another school will scoop him up right away. We all know he loves the west coast. ASU is not a reach. His ideal job probably would be Cal.

Respectfully disagree. Secondly, I wonder if he wants to continue in this racket v TV gigs. I know coaching would offer more $$, but quality of life may prevail.

Herb Sendek is a totally professional basketball coach (who has produced more head coaches than anyone else in the game, believe it or not).

Lavin, not so much.

Among them, two are named Miller.

I disrespectfully disagree.
Cal wouldn't hire Lavin if he offered to coach for free.
He has a well earned reputation as a terrible coach. ASU isn't going to touch him. Count on it.

I disagree with this I could totally see asu hiring Lavin. Lavin could point to success at UCLA and say I'm a much better west coast recruiter, and asu is a beautiful campus with great weather that is a party school and probably a lot easier for Lavin to recruit at then SJU. In fact I bet Lavin could fill out a talented roster at asu what he does with it would be interesting

Why has he made 2 tournaments in 9 years then?

Worse than Lavin?

Btw, I'm beginning to think Lavin to ASU makes a lot of sense. If I were him, I'd reach out. I wonder if Mary Jarou likes the dry heat?
