Lavin to Arizona St.?

I hope he does go there. He belongs back out West. And i wish him well. Except, of course, for when he plays against us.

Would be a great fit for him. They would be contenders. Wish him well. Tough for a West Coast guy to come out here to Jamaica, Queens and do what he did. And the man battled through cancer.

He's a stand up guy in my book.

I would love it if he got the job at ASU and proved the haters wrong. Classy guy who I will always remember fondly as our coach. Coached us for 2 of my favorite seasons ever, 2011 and 2015.

The fact that many felt that Lavin was not right for this job did not make them "Lavin haters". . Clearly the administration felt the same way and they were most certainly not "Lavin haters". If he does get the job and succeed at ASU, it does not mean that those who thought that Lavin was not right for this job were wrong. It simply means that ASU is a better fit for him than SJU. Nothing wrong with that.

Good for him.

I'm probably wrong and someone can correct me, but wasn't that the job Fran wanted that led to his ouster? What irony.

Yes. And yes.

He still will be iffy with the X's and O's, but ASU probably an easier place for his buddies like Dinos to send him some kids. He'll get better results with more consistent recruiting, and hopefully make another $7.5 million before he wears out his welcome if it comes to that. Didn't work out for him here long term, hopefully gets the job there. I guess his wife can fly to LA for auditions, etc.

I hope he gets the this job, or any job he wants. Here at SJU he tried, but he didn't have talent at all positions, and not even enough talent overall. For him to be successful in college bball he must have loaded rosters, and he never quite got that going here.

Good luck to him.

Correct answer but there is a little more to it. The Texas job was also open and that was the job he wanted the most. Barnes got it (Fraschilla never really had a chance).

When I say "haters" I did not mean all the people who thought that he should be fired. There are many smart people with valid arguments for him to lose his job that I simply respectfully disagreed with. I was referring to the small amount of people who hated him and had to post nonsensical things about him 100 times a day. The people who thought that what he wore, who he was married to, where he lived, what he ate, how he did his hair were relevant. To me, he is the perfect example of don't judge a book by it's cover. Some people might call him Slick Lavin for whatever reason and thought he looked and spoke like a car salesman but all i saw was a classy, honest guy who cared about his players education and lives. I know it bothered some but i loved all the positivity from his tweets and press conferences.

I never thought he was a great X's and O's coach and didn't understand his use of timeouts but his teams usually played very good defense and the teams offense looked much more well run at times this year. Personally, I have seen improvement in that area with him and I hope he shows that wherever he goes. I always thought it was funny that the same people who would say he is a horrible game day coach say that he only won with Norm's players. i don't know how they managed to do so well with such a horrible game day coach, must have been a miracle.

with a larger budget than SJU and bball not being the # 1 sport at ASU PLUS Lavin's connections on the west coast this makes a lot of sense for him.

I wish him the best and my hard hitting posts on here and on Twitter were all business and in the best interest of SJU - never, ever anything personal.

Good luck to ex SJU Coach Lavin in Tempe!

Speaking of timeouts, I thought it was funny yesterday when Duke hit a 3-pointer to go up by 6 and Coach K immediately called a timeout. That tactic would drive a lot of us crazy with Lavin....

I found it interesting all day today that not one expert said they were wrong in claiming ND had to score about ten threes to compete with Ky.
Prior to the game they were all in unison ND had to shoot about ten out of eighteen from three to stay in the game.
I guess Mike Brey realizes they are as much hot air as we are and he mostly avoided taking threes and his offensive game plan was close to perfection.
He had some real good shooters who were very consistent from game to game unlikike SJU shooters who were inconsistent from game to game. His players played more minutes vs Ky than SJU players usually did; 40,40 38 37 and 27.. There are a lot of ways to skin a cat and hindsight is wonderful.

Some of you must have a very interesting definition of what it means to be a "stand up guy". Tell the truth? Selfless? Reliable? hardworking?
That's what I think of.

And no, I hope he doesn't get the ASU job. Not because I wish SL ill, because I dont. I hope he's very successful and happy announcing or in his other endeavors. But I think he does his players a disservice in terms of basketball development. Also, he doesn't set the type of example I'd like from a college coach or professor.
Call me a hater or whatever you like, but this is what I believe. And I'm sure I'd love to have a beer and hangout with Steve, but he has serious flaws as a coach and manager of a basketball program.

Gotta tell ya I have to bite my tongue(or is it keyboard?) to prevent myself from responding to some of the nonsense still being posted by the Lavin apologists, who seem more concerned with continuing to defend him then celebrating the fact that our program is in far far better hands now than its been in 20 years. No reason to pile on, but also no reason to continue to make Lavin out to be far more than he ever was.
