Lavin parting ways with St.John's

2 year is moronic. should be 3 year minimum or 4 year with low buyout

I am dumbfounded by the lunacy of only 2 years

Could it be two additional years ... which would total three?

Most reports note 3 years & agree 2 is silly. Hopefully there is a max 1 year buyout.

I'd assume 2 years tacked on but I think the total years would need to be 4 including the 1 he has left

Put a clause in his contract that in 3 years when we are good again he can't call a timeout with 8:07 left in the game after we hit a huge three to go up 64-59 in a BE quarterfinal game. I swear 95% of coaches today are killing the game of college bball with their over-coaching. This guy is one of them, although you wouldn't think that by looking at our offensive sets!

@AdamZagoria: Steve Lavin's discussed extension at St. John's is not for 3 years, but 4 or 5, source tells @SNYtv

It would have to be two + the one year remaining, but I agree that anything less than four would discourage most recruits from committing and would be used as a tool by other coaches to convince recruits to not choose us. I'm sure they've been doing that for two years already.

I'll support whomever is chosen to lead this team. I will be a little sad to miss out out Miller or Hurley for sure, but Lavin is not a terrible choice. At least can have some semblance of continuity.

@AdamZagoria: Also, Lavin did not meet today with President Conrado “Bobby” Gempesaw, per source.

Probably, knowing SJU, he met with the Fencing Coach. :)

Still hope for Bobby Hurley ... He'll probably be on the hot seat at DePaul by then.

It will be interesting to see how the $$ end of this works out. Often things hit a snag at that point. Not hoping, just saying.

as per andy katz ESPN, working on extension...how many years. done deal! its over dudes. If not Mullin, Im glad we have Lav. You never know what your gonna get. I bet Lav brings home Diallo now!

He better bring in Diallo. It might be the only thing that gets several redmen.com fans off the ledge for a little while.

I am beyond disappointed. I get the feeling that Lavin was not let go, simply because the university could not get their act together.

Now, with time ticking away, a poor coach who has done a mediocre job is holding all the leverage.

Absolutely awful!

I am sick at the prospect of suffering through Lavin's nonsense for another 5 years. Absolutely sick about it.

Was this a power struggle between Monasch and Lavin?

MAybe Monasch was at the softball game, because he knew he lost the power struggle,Mr. Google,
what happened?
