Lavin-Part 2-balanced view

In all honesty I think it has to start with Maisello and Hurley and go from there. Also, people aren't going to like these other names but I think you have to at least call Hopkins and Wojo as well.

i am hearing Massielo will be the next coach at BC.
You mean Danny, not Bobby?

Mas?
If BC cans Donohue I see Tom Moore

Just throwing out names of two BC grads, Bruce Pearl and Tim O'Shea, solid coach at Bryant. Jesuits forgive, so would Pearl get a shot? Lol

BC strikes me as too conservative for personalities like Mas and Pearl.

Say what you want about Lavin's X and O acumen and in game coaching. I'd rather have this problem than trying to win with mid level Division 1 talent like we were during the previous regime(s). That's not a critique of those players, but night in and night out for a long period of time it was an uphill battle. His recruiting body of work has been solid. I'll admit to coming away wanting more, as did my 7 and 4 year old, who won't be going to the Garden tonight Regarding the package deal someone referred to earlier, remember the package deal of David Russell and George Garrison from Bellport, LI in 1979? Dating myself here.

Were you saying this when Norm was coaching? Because it was better under Norm when we had scholarship players and weren't on probation.

I thought I heard Digger mention Pearl and Auburn as a possibility.

Like Lavin has already said: SJU needs to upgrade their facilities and that will take some time and some massaging of university administration and high donors to get the funs to make such changes.

Like I have said in the past, CA is a dump and needs to be torn down and started from scratch. If I was a recruit and I get a tour of the Carmelo Anthony center and then get brought to CA and Taffner I would probably laugh. MSG and Mo Harkless are our biggest selling points right now.

Hey Johnny

Let me refresh your memory; Roberts took over a broken team (see Pittsburgh scandal). Shortly after he Roberts started his first season StJohns was placed on NCAA probation which certainly did not aid recruiting. StJohns lacked sufficient number of scholarship players to conduct practices during Roberts first season. If I recall, StJohns had 6 scholarship players during Roberts' first season as coach and was forced to provide playing time to walk-on(s) (see Phil Mesier [sp?]). Yeah, Roberts was the wrong hire but make no mistake; Lavin took over a senior laden team with developed talent far better than Roberts' first season.

The StJohns basketball program was in much- much better condition when Lavin took over than when Roberts became head mens basketball coach.

from an immediate future (current season)? Yes

Beyond the current year? It was in pathetic condition...couldn't recruit...had no one coming in...needed to pull a Willardto keep his job

Trust me, I live up here.
BC could give 3 sh!ts who the basketball coach is.
BC is playing ND tonight in a hockey east (yeah, it's really a conference) game.
It'll sell out, as all the hockey games do.
Can't make this up-
13 BB games-
4007 average attendance.

PJ Carlisimo right now. He takes this team to the dance no question.

I don't care who you are, you know Lavin could easily lead us to the same disappointment next year.

Lavin did more to improve the program in one season than Norm did in 6 so just stop the silliness. When the curtain went down on Norm Anthony Mason Jr. was anointed the go-to guy launching bad shot after bad shot. Sean Evan was going coast to coast like a tractor-trailer going downhill without brakes - you just knew it was going to end badly. Malik Boothe was running the point, and Dwight Hardy was riding the Pines. Why? Because Norm was in so far over his head that the furthest he could get in 6 seasons was a one-and-done appearance in the NIT. Come on, man. A little more balance.

Hey Beast.... Rather than attempt to argue please explain what part of my statement "Yeah, Roberts was the wrong hire" don't you understand?

I have to learn how to read. Sorry

But the point remains. Lavin took all the same ingredients and he and staff got far more out of them by changing it all around. That does count for coaching ability, even if the assistants get a lot of credit too.

LOL

I always said, he thought he was a Magic Johnson and Penny Hardaway clone. But your analogy works.

Come on, man. A little more balance.

Several folks have lost all balance. Criticism and citing of issues are valid in this case (which, some folks have lost sight of doing). No doubt, the season is a disappointment. I hate how the season has ended for us. Heck! I haven't watched one second of the Seton Hall/Providence game (I've been watching NC State/Syracuse game). I, probably won't watch another minute of the Big East Tournament (I haven't watched any of it since our loss yesterday). I'll see the Big East teams in the NCAA Tournament next week. But I wish some folks would stop allowing their emotions to affect their thoughts.

**That's not solely directed at you, Otis**

I haven't watched a game or checked a score since our game ended. The only updates I've gotten are from these boards (and I haven't even been on as much as usual). It sucks when our season ends. Hopefully, I will get somewhat excited for the NIT.
