Lavin or ...

In reading the responses on the other poll, many posters qualified their answers (both yes and no) depending on other options. With Ben Howland out of the mix, the list of other options is somewhat smaller.

So it might be interesting to look at Lavin vs some popular specific choices, as opposed to Lavin vs the unknown (and blind faith in the administration, which has a less-than-stellar track record but is now under new management and, well, hope springs eternal).

I am going to take it is a given that every poster on the site with the possible exception of tom bradley would prefer Billy Donovan to Lavin. Of course, Donovan is about as likely a candidate as Tom Izzo or Greg Marshall or Shaka Smart. So if you use the "other" box, please use it with a "realistic" candidate in mind (Seth Greenberg, Masiello, Rick Pitino Jr., Danny Hurley, etc).

i chose Danny HUrley (other) because while his brother is the sexier choice coming off an ncaa bid, Hurley has built URI from a 5-win team into a top 25 club next year.

in addition theres a lesser chance he is lured away by a big school than Bobby will be (like Duke) when the time comes...

Three votes so far (Marillac, Paultz, Avon) and three Hurley fans, but only two Hurley votes?

I'm guessing Paultz voted Hurley and Avon voted other.

Bobby Hurley has how many years of head coaching experience? has recruited how many top 50 kids? won how many NCAA tourney games? are you freaking kidding me...He couldn't get an ass coach job at Duke. He is coaching in frozen Buffalo for a reason. Why hasn't K gotten him a job? Why did K take Capel back over Hurley?

And exactly how has his father treated the program through the years?

There's my answer. Hahaha

Both fine choices. Danny has the better resume as a coach, but he lacks the appeal without Bobby by his side. Danny just seems a little crazy to me. I just can't imagine a guard telling Bobby Hurley no. His cred for a guy that played 20 years ago is absurd. Not just for recruiting, but coaching as well. At Wagner, those kids idolized Bobby.

Danny tells a story about being at Wagner during the 25-win season and a group of fans coming up to the team bus for autographs and walking right past him and the players to Bobby.

I guess I'm the leader of the Archie Miller fan club. He's the guy I want here for 20 years.

That's why I'd want Bobby of the 2 ( I didn't vote ). Him walking into a kids living room to me would have a huge impact. And I hate the guy because he played at Duke :)

If your measuring stick for SUNY Buffalo is top 50 players and NCAA wins, you should leave yourself out of any decision.

SUNY Buffalo was a joke of program that had never made a single trip to the NCAA tournament. Bobby, within days of being hired, signed a guard that should be playing in the Big East and the 2014-2015 MAC Player of the Year. He followed it up by signing another Big East caliber guard in 2014 and this year signed a former top 75 (ranked as high as #39--so there is your top 50) recruit and a JUCO SF we could sure use here.

When he calls recruits, he said they don't believe Buffalo is D-1 at first. They wouldn't consider Buffalo if not for him. Buffalo won 14 games the year before Bobby took over and he signed more talent in the first month of taking the job than he inherited. I didn't think he'd do this well this quickly...I really didn't. Next year they are going to be insane.

I refuse to participate. This is wrong and it in no way helps the program. If players, opponents and recruits read these baseless comments, SJU is put at a disadvantage. The School and Program have enough warts as it is, we don't need to fabricate them or advertise them.

Can you imagine showing up at your job on a given morning and there is some poll going around as to whether you should be retained or terminated? In this hypothetical poll there is an opportunity for coworkers to list your deficiencies…Fire – he walks around with his shirt tale out. Retained – he did an OK job on that project a few years ago. Fire – when he was sick, someone else had to do his job for him. And then my favorite; Fire – he took the last two years off (from recruiting).

Other.

My complete, total, 100% first choice would be Shaka. I don't think that's happening, but we should make every effort.

Archie Miller would be #2, but I also don't think he is coming.

The Hurleys? I guess I'd be OK with Bobby. I know the Duke thing shouldn't bother me, but it does a bit. Danny, I think, would take Seton Hall over us, simply because it's his alma mater.

I'm partial to someone like Tim Cluess (I love up-and-down, full court basketball), but he is no spring chicken, and seems to know how to lose the big games as well as anyone.

One name not being thrown around a lot (for any job) is Andrew Toole of Robert Morris. Staten Island native, only 34 years old, and already has 5 NCAA/NIT/CIT victories to his credit. Assuming Smart and Miller are not interested, he would probably get the next phone call if I were in charge (and had decided to make a change).

Call in Joe & Evan. They are talking about St. John's now. Alot of callers who called in use the old dorms argument.

nit victories only count as 1/2 victory point but will give a full point last year since they beat us and cit victories count as -1/4 points

I voted BH. I can't stand the makeup or balance of the roster since Lavin took over and thats what puts us in the situation we were in this and next season. With any bench we are a sweet 16 team.

Archie Miller is my choice. I feel like he is both low risk and potentially high reward. I just can't see him doing worse than Lavin.

-Stronger X's and O's
-Nationally Known Name
-Can Recruit
-Has Run Clean Programs

I also refuse to vote in any poll that doesn't include past sju candidate stalwarts like Pat Kennedy or even the Ghost of Rick Majerus

Hopefully one way or the other this is over soon, so I can concentrate on my Mets falling apart again. :)

Also if any of you guys read the JJ Jungle Dave who has been in the hoops biz since graduating college knows Archie Miller and asked him if he would come to SJU and he said no
