Lavin on the fan today at 5. n/m

He said in the interview that we lost Amir Garret to Pro-Baseball. No we didn't, we lost him to San Diego State when he transferred. San Diego State lost him to Pro-baseball as he decided after his season this past summer in the Reds farm system, not to return to San Diego State.

Polee went to SD State.
Amir ended up going to Cal State Northridge.

My mistake. No he didn't play there as he sat out last year as a transfer but would have been eligible to play this year.

So we lost him due to his decision to focus on a career in baseball.

Amir transferred because he wanted to focus on baseball. It's hard to focus on baseball in NY when you could only play in the summer, and at that time he is with the Reds anyway. He went to a school where he can play year round and be closer to home.

None of that is true. He didn't play baseball all last fall and winter, and practiced with the Cal State Northridge bball team. He decided to drop basketball after this past summer season.

Lavin told him there was no room for him, and that he wouldn't play with Sampson, Sanchez, Obekpa, Dom, Jones, GG here. But that was before Sanchez was ineligible for a year, GG sat out a year, Jones sat out a year, and Sampson went pro.

I don't think he was forced out. He started over GG a week after leaving high school. He signed after Sampson, Harkless, and Dom were all on board. He was a top 75 recruit and clearly exponentially better than Jones and GG.

Lavin would have gone to a few others before Garrett....Jones, Balamou, Marco, GG, etc.

He played the year Sanchez was ineligible, and Gift redshirted. He was on that team.

If you remember though, the team went to Europe that next summer, and Garrett obviously would not have been able to join. While I don't think Lavin forced him out (and would have taken him, had Garrett chose to come back), he probably warned Garrett that he would be behind the others (from a basketball conditioning standpoint) when practice started in the fall. That could have eaten into his playing time.

I also don't think his game ever really recovered from that non-conference game in which he missed something like 10 straight free throws (I forget who it was against - I think we won anyway). His game took a total turn downward after that. Lack of aggression due to either fear of free throw shooting, or fear of injury (probably the latter, with good reason).

I meant play baseball as in just pitching and throwing in the offseason. Not actually playing on a team. I don't know if Lavin forced him out. You seem pretty confident about that, do you have any info to prove it?

Never heard that that was what went down. But hey a day without taking shots at Lavin is a day wasted

I don't know exactly what happened. But, I do know we had no scholis available for Sheed until Amir transferred. That said, too bad he can't transfer back ,we sure could use him next year.
