Lavin "Off" the Hot Seat

Message to coach.

Lose the Under Armour pull up under blazer look. It is horrible

I really think he does it to piss off people at the school who complained he was underdressing for events. You can't complain about me now -- I'm wearing a blazer like you insisted.

Well hey, if he's a wiseass about that, then there's a simple solution.
Plus it looks more and more like top recruits want no part of Lavin and the circus over here.

People here who truly love SJU know what the best direction is, and that's a change at head coach.
Anyone who thinks other has blind faith in him.

Not necessarily.

Lavin can win the Big East then go on to win the NCAAs and then they can move the Olympics up to this summer and he can win the gold in basketball and he wont be back at SJU in September.

By who's choice? Just wondering since this statement is vague. I wouldn't blame him for leaving nor would I blame the admin for asking him to leave (though if what you stated above was the case I don't think they could do that and then expect any decent coach to take the job, LOL).

Hit is stretching reality to make a point. We may barely make the Ncaa's, we will be disappointed in an NIT bid and he needs a huge recruiting class with players who want a ton of minutes. If he cannot get players with the amount of playing time available then he is useless to St. John's and even a moron like our AD sees that. The wild card will be President Bobby.

The current admin is completely fed up w/ Lavin's antics. Remember this is not a Norm Roberts salary he is making. I think the # is 1.6 million. That's a lot of money to pay a coach who will have had one NCAAS appearance after five seasons and in year six will be looking at a total rebuild.

Another poster had said either here or on Twitter that he hates being at campus but loves being out in the city socializing. SJU hates this.

Additionally, I know that some see no wrong here but the idea that our name keeps coming up with the Artis kid from Oregon put the admin overboard. They do not want this kid. Lavin was told this and we were mentioned in his recruitment afterwards.

Lastly, they see the shape that the program is in. They see that we will be the worst team in the big east next season and that Lavin's 2014 and 2015 classes are probably the two worst recruiting classes in SJU history. The writing is on the wall. Lavin is already reaching out to people trying to stop this from snowballing....which he's been unsuccessful in doing.

The party's over for Lavin. Just not a good fit for us. You can't argue with the results.

Pretty certain that # is even higher actually.

It is higher. It's closer to $2 million, plus another $1 million he received as a "relocation loan." Which I'd be willing to bet was forgivable if he stayed the full contract period.

You say all that and my only response is, gee, I never thought the admin would pay attention. The only reason I thought you might have also had this info is because the new Prez is in cost cutting mode and Lavin's salary is obviously a big place to cut but if it's cost cutting then you can eliminate a large number of names on the other thread, if they do let him go.

We could be in a cost cutting mode but that doesn't mean you cut what could be a big money maker. We do get a lot of TV money and actually have a pretty high comparative athletic budget so would not use men's hoop coach as a spot to save a few bucks otherwise get out of big time basketball and join the Maac.

Trust me, I'm not advocating for Lavin. But I'm sure Gempesaw is intelligent enough to realize that athletics are often times the front porch of an institution. If he doesn't think that the current coaching staff are earning their salaries, that's more than fine. But I doubt he goes the penny pinching approach for this program. It's too important for the image of the university (and donors).

Yeah; post Fox contract, they have the $'s to spend on a coach. If Lavin pulls it all together this year in some reasonable form, then he stays, if he doesn't, then the admin will have the $'s to spend on a reasonable replacement. I'm not too worried long-term. I have no clue how the next two to five years will go, but I think we'll have our shot at some success.

Lavin's gone before next season and they should can Monasch for letting this happen as well.
