Lavin needs to be seen

I think Lavin needs to return for the last few games of this season to show the high school players and junior college group that he has recovered and is back. I believe this is what has hurt his recruiting to this point and why there havent been many, if any, (except for the transfer Branch) commits

Because seeing him all across the country isn't good enough?

If anything, recruiting during this time in his life should show just how dedicated he is to staying the course and being behind the bench next year. These kids have to realize, "damn, he's too sick to coach, but he's still following me all over the country?" Gotta say something to these kids and Lavin's dedication.

I agree Lavin has to coach the last 3-4 games to show hes back to dispel the negative.

No coach is on the circuit like Lav right now. He is on his targets like white on rice so he is doing the most important thing for this current team .....getting them help! That said, my gut tells me UCLA game for an appearance.

I think coach Lav is doing exactly what he can at this point in his recovery. The fact that he is out all over the country being seen by the kids he is recruiting makes us very lucky indeed to have a man with such dedication. He will be seen by everyone when the recruits start commiting......

All well and good that coach is all over the country recruiting but I agree he needs to return to bench for a few games only because some recruits may not be convinced that it is a certainty that he will be able to eventually return to the bench which is what I am sure they want to happen. Even if it means he disciplines himself to just sit on the bench with a rolled up program ala his mentor John Wooden so as to not overly exert himself and jeopardize his health much like I recently had to do during an MRI despite being claustrophobic.

I am pretty confident that Lavin is doing exactly what he should be doing at this point to build this program. If he is feeling well enough to be on the bench the few games but decides to stay away, I respect that as the right decision - we are in good hands with the great staff that was assembled. If he is still not well enough, then that's the way it is, and I just hope and pray for his good health. The man has already proven to be a master recruiter. He knows what he needs to build a great team, and isn't loaidng up on second tier players. You can be certain that after spending time with Coach Lavin, recruits are not concerned that he wont be back next season.

We'll be fine.

I think that Mo Harkless staying for one more year is much more important to this program than whether or not Lavin returns to the bench this year. He'll be back, that we know, and he is recruiting his ass off. He'll get a few of these players based on his track record. Mo is another issue.

No offense, but how come these same type of threads, in reference to Lavin returning, continue to pop up every week?

I think they will until he returns and that's just the nature of the beast. Obviously traveling all over the country is taxing in itself. Anyone who's done it knows that. Some would argue that it's moreso than walking down from the skybox to the bench and parking himself on a cushion while Dunlap does his thing. Recruiting is all about appearances and his total absence makes it tougher no doubt, especially with the competition out there. It's his decision but all decisions have consequences.

There is no need to rehash this after every game or every week. Besides, what are you gonna say about Lavin when he reels in a solid, recruiting class in the spring?

He will find something to say. The most disjointed fan base out there continues to not let me and my predictions down.

Lavin should come back this year if, and ONLY IF, he is given medical clearance to do so. Why risk a short term benefit and put the long term at risk? He is out there recruiting, so I'm not worried about what recruits or other coaches might say.

Of course I'll praise him and jump right on the bandwagon. Right now though I prefer to go by what I see and hear. Steve did a good , not great, job last year with Norm's players and his only recruit left town. This year the Nuri, Sampson, Pelle, Roberts, and Q situations plus the illness problem leave him with an "incomplete" in my grade book. I hope it all works out but nobody really knows at this point. In Louie I trusted but Steve is still a newcomer to me at this point.

Bobre Lavin took a bunch of kids who never won everything in their college career other than a fluke game here or there and put all the schools who they hadnt beaten on a board before the season and told them the goal was they were going to beat each and every one of them and had what was probably the single best streak in the middle of the year that I've seen in a long time. Clobbering Duke and a host of others and winning at Nova.

That's only a good job ?
