Lav showing us lots of love

If for no other reason, I appreciate Lavin because I think it took about 15 years before I heard Fran say something nice about us.

As its been mentioned before and shouldnt go without mention again.  If Lavin had a true boss above him I think his tenure would have gone much better.

Totally agree. We lacked a real AD for so long.  Lavin's time here would have likely gone different.  Mullin wouldn't even answer to an AD.  What a debacle.

Lavs was great, but I'm still peeved that he played Max Hooper over Rysheed Jordan in an OT loss to Providence. /media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

The thing with Lavin it's not just on TV he tells everyone privately how much he loves St Johns it's definitely not an act. I dont know for sure but I actually think he likes St Johns more than UCLA

Fran said something nice about us? Damn. I missed it. Well, I'll try to remember to pay closer attention 15 years from now when it happens again.  /media/kunena/emoticons/cool.png

You know more about this than I do -- I really don't know much about that situation beyond what's been shared here.  But I also think if he doesn't get sick the tenure would have been different as well.  I think that impacted both him and the program at the worst possible time during his tenure.

And hia dad and marital stuff

Lavin was going through a ton while he was at Sju.  His Prost are stuff which as many know causes a whole ton of other implications for men.  Then the marital stuff which I didn't even know about until afterward.  He was one of the good guys for SJU and did us proud despite trying to " keep it together" over those years.  My guess is if he was unencumbered with huge life issues, and had a real AD, as moss said, things might have worked out better and for longer.  That said, he still seems to life sju and is gracious and a great media guy.  We should all fully support him in his endeavors.  He's been good for us and it's still paying dividends with him in the booth singing our praises.

Certainly debatable, but for casual college basketball fans today (not Johnnies die hards), past Louie, Mullin, Mark Jackson, Malik Sealy &  Felipe Lopez, it's quite possible Steve Lavin is is the sixth most recognizable name of the program.

True and for younger fans like Amase etc I think Lavin might be 2 or 3 at worst which means I'm Ducking old :)

And I forgot Ron Artest...  I don't think Harkless, D'Lo or Ponds would be as high. Maybe Jarvis & Frashchilla after that.

If Ron Ron didn't keep changing his name it would help his brand recognition.

It isn't like it worked so well for Chris Jackson (an absolute scoring machine) or Cat Stevens.

The former Chris Jackson seems to have a lot of speaking engagements out here in the Bay Area. Spoke at an Islamic Cultural Center function that my daughter attended with a friend (and subsequently snuck out of), and also spoke to her school in a Zoom assmebly about a month ago. As for the former Cat Stevens, Lavin is a much friendlier guy.

And just like that, we're back on topic!
