Lav: Obekpa Will Average Double-Double

JDR looks to be in the best shape I've ever seen him in...big-time transformation. When I first saw ADR in his first SJU photos, I just dropped my head in disappointment, but he seems too look much better now. He still has a long way to go, but he'll be so busy with practices, conditioning and film that he won't have any choice but lose 20 pounds.

If he can stay out of foul trouble, no reason he can't average 10 pts 8 boards and 4 blocks.

Foul trouble is the key with him, he has to get the early fouls down.

Speaking of which, Did anyone get a feel for Delarosa last nite? He will have to back up Obekpa at some point.

Tough to get a feel on any of the players, but from what little I saw of him last night, Delarosa should be redshirted, with the hope of him taking some of the baby fat off in time for next season.

If we are to force the issue on defense, he can't be a part of it, moving around like that.

I wasn't there, but I hear he is not in decent enough shape to merit much time. I guess if bigs get in foul trouble or are injured he will have to be thrown in there. Btw, his brother has very little value. At least Adonis has some skills & upside. I saw Smith of Georgetown trimmed down considerably this summer. ADR needs to dedicate himself to getting in game shape. On a guard oriented, up tempo team, in his current state. he will be sucking wind & unproductive.

I'm not sure the team has enough depth upfront to redshirt him.

"Lavin praised his offseason, saying he has had 'the best offseason in terms of development of any player I’ve coached in my career.'”

I certainly hope this is true, but unfortunately doesn't mean much coming from Lavin who said the exact same thing about Branch last offseason and then went on to use him as the 8th man.

Obekpa, who I absolutely love and whose importance to this team cannot be understated, was also misused last year (after a promising freshman campaign) so hopefully Lavin doesn't have similar plans for this year's most-improved player because we can't win without him. I don't see how he could in light of our lack of bigs, and I also think Obekpa is going to force the issue with a monster season.

He could lose weight...or he could be the basketball version of Pablo Sandoval. Maybe the bookstore should stock up on "Panda" gear.

I like him too and see Emeka Okefor potential there with even a little more athleticism. He showed some positive offensive moves last year handling and even shooting. He's been blessed with a basketball body and only needs to prove he's not a tweener for the next level. What's between his ears and between his legs will determine what's in his bank account in the coming years. Our athletic big recruits should pay close attention to Chris as things unfold. We offer both exposure and playing time to a smart group of good kids. Go Steve! Sell this fine opportunity and coach 'em up!
