Kudos Posh

I love Posh, but actually think his defense was significantly better last season.   I know he has been playing hurt and he may have put on some muscle that has helps him hold his ground when getting good position on the offensive boards especially.   I'm not sure what the story was with him coming off the bench on Monday vs. SHU, whether it was disciplinary, strategic, or sending a message, but Monday was perhaps his best game of the season.

It's almost impossible to say which of the smaller guards can make it in the NBA.   Yes, you need a handle for certain, yes you need to be able to consistently make outside shots, but lots of guys who appear to have both don't make it.   For now, just enjoying watching a kid who leaves it all on the floor, is a tremendous on ball defender, and despite all the steals, rarely if ever gets caught out of position.
You know it’s funny you mentioned his weight, I’ve felt this year he’s looked heavier. Not sure if its muscle or fat but either way I don’t think it’s helped him. He looked quicker and more explosive last year which could just be the injury like you said. Could just be my eyes deceiving me not sure.

I respect your opinions so your added descriptions make sense. Last year he was like Sonic the hedgehog and he literally stuck to guys for 94 feet. He was so damned fast sneaking in to steal the ball. I've heard he's been hurt but he does look broader, not out of shape but just slower a bit. Hopefully if it is an injury, it's something minor.

I think Poah is a warrior and other than his off the bounce jumper, he has been all that we could expect and more. As for his defensive performance, anyone questioning his effort is wrong IMO. I think an underestimated impact, however, is the fact that last year Dunn was our best on ball defender and often covered the oppositions best backcourt scorer. That allowed Posh to almost exclusively do his thing, wreaking havoc.

This year, he doesn’t have that luxury. Still wreaking havoc but having to work harder and taking a pounding.

No doubt his effort is undeniable and Dunn would of been an impact player this year for sure. Earlington leaving was understandable but Dunn and Williams I don’t understand what more could have been done to keep them. They had big roles and played starter minutes I wonder what happened.

Who knows? The Shadow?
Anyway, I’m sure Williams enjoys playing in front of family and friends but have to think part of him regrets the decision. He isn’t even starting any longer and PT is on decline (14 minutes last game).

You and I have been around for a very long time.   We are hard pressed to think of anyone who played harder from start to finish than Posh.   Joy to watch, win or lose.

By the way.....Posh's emerging mid-range jumper has been making him just a little more lethal.

Regarding Posh’s physical stature this year vs last , it could be a lot of things .  More weight training or a muscle building diet . Or , just the fact that as a 19-20 year old , his body is still transitioning from youth to a young adult .       As for Dunn, Williams , Earlington , Roberts , etc leaving , we have not really gotten a complete explanation from the School . I think much speculation here on this site that they all left for greater opportunities .  I have my doubts about that for a number of reasons .   But , all left with mostly a high degree of Class and to my knowledge haven’t really expounded at length as to why they transferred out . Especially for their Senior or 5 th year .     In my opinion , had they all returned we could have a better record than currently .  I agree getting Wheeler and Soriano were up grades over Roberts and Toro .

Schools are not going to put out an official statement on why a kid transfers out.  Their reasons have already been explained many times on here.

-Williams simply selected the option to be closer to home and play in front of his family.  Staff was still recruiting him to come back and had good relationship with him throughout the whole process, his dad was pretty vocal about this on twitter.

-Earlington, I can't remember if he answered somebody on a twitter or if it was in an article, but he said he didn't play as much as he thought he would and was looking for a spot with more playing time.

-Roberts wanted more playing time as well, it was no ill feels towards he and staff, his aunt was a very vocal supporter of CMA. He just seen the writing on the wall his minutes went from 19 MPG his sophomore year to 10 MPG his junior year and with the guys they had coming in it was clear he wasn't going to play much.

Dunn was originally done with school and told staff he wasn't coming back, then decided he wanted to play another year, by this time staff already had other guards committed so he transferred to a smaller school where he knew he would get to play a lot.  Dunn's uncle is still active on twitter and was also a big supporter of CMA and always was proud of Dunn's accomplishments at St. John's.

All of that is very reasonable. I hear a lot and post what isn't confidential. I've never heard even a whisper that transfers had anything to do with CMA,which was speculated angrily here as part of the dump Anderson sentiment.

There were no smoking guns, no flaws in his personality or system that kids wanted to flee en masse.

Simply it was an unprecedented opportunity for players to transfer without sitting out or seeking a waiver. One shot to position themselves better for their post college basketball futures.

Lost in Posh' 15 ppg is the fact that he is so unselfish that ahead of the field he almost always prefers to feed a teammate than get an easy 2 for himself.

His middle game has been superb over the past 3 or 4 games, refuting criticisms here that he can't shoot.

He still sometimes gets a little reckless trying to maket the highlight reel pass or a little sloppy passing into traffic but these are correctable areas.

Of late his overall play has been exceptional and he has been the best guard on the floor despite not being 100% healthy.

Our chances tonight and the rest of the way depend heavily on Posh.  He is an elite college player and even with Pinzon the falloff after Posh is steep.

Best hope if Posh can't go tonight is that 2 or 3 or even 4 guys together pick up the slack.   I could see that happening rather than 1 guy replacing Posh.

He is simply that good and he and julian are heart and soul of this team.   Posh the heart. Julian the soul.

And for most of the kids it has worked out. Cole, Earlington, Roberts, McGriff & Moore are all getting more playing time and most have had their numbers improve. Greg is the exception and while I don't know this to be true wouldn't be surprised if lingering injuries have affected his playing time. Meanwhile some of our transfers-in like Soriano & Wheeler have improved by leaps & bounds as the season has progressed  and will likely be key contributors next year as well.

I take occasional looks, and honestly, I'm happy for them.   If we just root for the team and not the kids that play on them, we are more than likely to end up disappointed.   I'm glad it worked out.  Many of them saw writing on wall in terms of playing time.   If you remember, McGriff got a late start last season due to Posh being injured and performed admirably.    Cole had deficiencies but had a decent season for us.    Earlington played very well for us but I believe he had reached a ceiling in terms of physical ability.

Good for each of them and I believe their collective experience at SJU was a very good one.    Transient college basketball resumes are now the norm, but I believe if we treat these kids who left as an enduring part of the program, recruits will take notice and want to be a part of SJU.

Consensus here is that losing 8 players was perfectly normal .  Players , who for the most part, had already completed 2 seasons under the CMA system and had finished 4 th in the BE last year . And , would have been the Seniors and upper Classmen that most teams covet .    All had played BE ball and each found their roles .    I’m not saying CMA forced them to transfer but , hey 8 players is a lot . Even with the transfer portals as impetus .  There is no doubt that Soriano and Wheeler were needed upgrades but , their was room on the tean with Toro and Caraher gone .         We lost a great deal of outside shooting with Earlington , Moore and Cole gone as well as GWill . And , Dunn despite his flaws had proven  himself a clutch BE capable guard . And , a decent partner to Posh .                                         It’s just my opinion that I feel we lost more in the transfer process than we gained . But , I’m still hoping this Group will finish up in that 4 th place or better standing .

Posh has become really good at that pull up jumper from around the foul line.  I dont know if he will ever be a standstill, spot up 3 point shooter but when he gets his legs under him and pulls up on the move, that shot is consistently going down.

I think much of the talk of dissension was due to the coach that was let go.

BACK TO POSH.

He is certainly strong enough to shoot threes, and more than strong enough to kick some asses of people who insult and criticize him when he has an off game   /media/kunena/emoticons/tongue.png
