QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 30, 2023) – After averaging 17.5 points in two games last week, St. John’s guard AJ Storr earned his second BIG EAST Freshman of the Week award, as announced by the league on Monday.

Storr, who previously garnered BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors on Jan. 16, scored double-figures in both contests last week against Creighton and Georgetown. In back-to-back starts, Storr shot 48.3 percent (14-29 FG) from the field and 44.4 percent (4-9 3FG) from 3-point territory. The 6-foot-6 wing from Rockford, Ill., also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists during the two-game stretch.

Watching AJ closely the past several games, I am impressed with his savvy and movement. He really does a nice job running to open spots rather than standing around waiting for the ball to come to him. He obviously has the stroke to keep teams honest opening up opportunities for interior guys. Lastly he has a quick first step and can take it the hoop on drives adroitly. Stick around kid!

Aside from getting a rebound ripped out of his hands early in the game (I think that was him) I was very impressed with all facets of his game yesterday even before the game winning 3.

That was first play of game. Maybe it woke him up.

If Mathis, a CMA favorite, stayed healthy, Storr would likely not have gotten solid minutes to shine. Always hate to see an injury, but the door opened for AJ and he took full advantage. If he sticks around, which I think is probable, he really will be a budding star as his confidence grows.

Storr has game . King looks like he will be a contributor . Hope they stay , with or without CMA . Add Gardner too . But , without Soriano , a big Man will be needed from the Portal .
Unless somehow they can come up with enough NIL to keep Soriano another season. Soriano strikes me as the kind of kid who would be open to that if they could get it together. Regardless of who the coach is, a Starting lineup next season of: Posh, Jones, Storr, Gardner and Soriano would be formidable, along with a second unit of King, Wusu, Pinzon, Stanley and Lededberg. Add Keita and Reede. It’s not as dire as things may seem if they can pull together some NIL money. Maybe I’m just seeing things through rose colored glasses but you give Pitino , Mack or Turgeon that team and I have no doubt they’d be able to do some damage. Hurley or Wojo would probably have that Team dancing. CMA I have my doubts as do we all.

You could see it on his face that he was so upset that he went under the screen allowing DePaul to hit the 3. Probably thought that cost them the game.
Yes you could see it on his face and in his body language. Good thing he has great teammates because you could also see Wusu and others in his ear telling him to keep his head up. I would be willing to bet that no one was happier with the win than AJ.

Anyone know the deal with Curbelo, is he done playing? It's looking like he won't be back next year, He is friends with Jones, Soriano,Traore and Pinzon which also makes me wonder how that might affect their decisions for next year as well.

Anyone could see from Day 1 that Storr was going to be a player.
I was confident that he would become a good player and I also thought that he would be good as a freshman, depending on how quickly he progressed on defense. Judging by his recruiting rankings, he definitely was not considered a can't miss prospect but the potential was there. Looks like the staff is bringing him along nicely because of late, he is outperforming other players ranked much higher than he was by recruiters and talent evaluators who do that for a living.
