Don't know how many of you check out other teams message boards but I decided to look at Kentucky and Kansas and get their take on the diallo recruitment. It is so frustrating and annoying to listen to these fans talk as if they are entitled to these top guys and how dare they even consider another program. so funny to hear the Kentucky fans put down kansas's program. In sorry but calipari doesn't make these guys into nba players. These guys are McDonald's all Americans and would be going to the nba regardless if they are at Kentucky or most any other school. Calipari is like joe torre was with his all star Yankees teams. He managed egos well and got them to buy into the team concept. These Kentucky all stars would have better stats on any other team and you can't tell me that would hurt their draft stocks. Plus nobody talks about the guys who regress with them. The Kentucky fans argue about the regression of a bunch of the Kansas top ranked players. And sure some of it is true. But they are pretty blind to a few of their own regressing even though one guy pointed out a few such as the Harrison's, poythress, Marcus lee and dakari Johnson. All guys that were supposed to go top first round only to see their stocks dropped. Poythress and lee are still there when that certainly wasn't the plan. The Kansas boards are also a little pompous too but certainly not as bad as the Kentucky boards. They both really don't consider us a player in the diallo sweepstakes and I hope diallo proves them wrong because I love his game but would love for him to shove it in those respective schools faces. Come on diallo. Play part of the time at Kentucky or be a main focus here in the bright lights and own nyc. You can write your ticket to the nba at St. John's just as easily as you can those other places. Ask Mullin.
To your point, those kids are going to get drafted no matter where they go to school. Kentucky isn't really big into player development. Players don't really need to be developed in college.
With that being said, if these players are going to the NBA regardless of where they go to college, why would they not go to Kentucky, or even Kansas? Basketball is god and is all that matters in these towns, and the players are treated like kings. Sure, NYC is one of the best cities in the world, but basketball is also somewhat of an afterthought in the city. So if you already know you are going to be drafted, why not go somewhere and live the good life first?
Im sure the atmosphere and all would be very tempting for any player. But don't go there because you think that's your only ticket to the nba. That's all I'm saying. These fans all make it sound like it is a future career ending choice.
You either want to beat em or join em. Make it in New York and win here and you will be a lot more famous than another face in the crowd at Kentucky.
It is not a future career ending decision to not go to Kentucky. However, the the national exposure, the scouts at every game, the pro days, the constant media attention....that is all more than you are going to get anywhere else.
Make it in NY and you will be more famous? Maybe so. But you will be more famous in NY only. Outside of the NYC and the surrounding areas, not that many people care about St Johns. I'm guessing that alot more people know the Harrison brothers than they do DLo. I'm from Pennsylvania, and every time I bring up St Johns to someone, this is usually the response I get, "Oh St Johns, didn't they used to be really good a long time ago." Being another face in the crowd at Kentucky is still alot better than being the face of a program that not alot of people (outside of their city) care about anymore....
