We can all agree that Dunlap came here with an incredible resumé and reputation. Nonetheless, that team took time to gel (February?). After 2 seasons, he gota an NBA head coaching job. He was not going to be easily replaced. A season later, Lavin brings in Whitesell. Although he doesn't come in with the reputation that Dunlap had, he is also highly thought of as a teacher and strategist. I am almost sure he does not use the same forceful teaching methods that Dunlap used. Maybe it is taking a bit longer for his system to take hold. Maybe he doesn't have quite the influence that Dunlap had. I don't know since I haven't had the benefit of attending practices. Apparently some posters have. Maybe they can tell us how active Whitesell is at practice.
As for the other assistants, they all have their strengths and, I'm sure, their deficits. I doubt that there are too many teams with as good a coaching staff as us. While we may not yet have seen the results that we were hoping for, I don't feel qualified to knock their abilities. The guy that eats has been instrumental in bringing in some of our best recruits. The other guy with no reputation as a coach is sought out by NBA players to help with their workouts. Last year's inexplicable addition had a long NBA career and coached at that level.
Maybe these guys are frauds who have doctored their resumés or maybe they are Ivy League scholars teaching community college students. I'm not smart enough to answer that question. When we call for coaches to be fired, I look back at Tom Coughlin in 2007. I hate the Giants but I have immense respect for Coughlin (and the Mara family). I'd trade Jason Garrett and Jerry Jones for them in a heartbeat.
