Justin Simon

Great player and important fit on this roster. Seems like a tremendous kid, easy to root for.

Lot of good comparisons in terms of skillset and athleticism. In terms of court presence and role he plays within the offense reminds me quite a bit of Grant Gibbs. Doesn't play point, but offense gets run through him a lot. Have noticed first pass in the half court often goes to Simon to initiate the set, which he has done effectively making plus plays with limited error and ability to pass over the top of defenders.

Simon a much more athletic and versatile player than Gibbs, but Gibbs had similar role for some really good Creighton teams that also had some explosive guards. Steady, quality decision maker who does a little of a lot of different things without any standout shortcomings. Simon just happens to be a mega athlete on both ends of the floor as well!

Best athlete on team, proverbial "staff stuffer", cerebral, nice size, team first attitude, defends & makes winning plays. May never be a dead eye shooter, but give me a guy like this anytime. Perfect complement to the two talented, freelancing guards. Simon makes this trio lethal.

What I like most about Simon, from the minute I saw him, is that he knows what he does well, and sticks to it.Since I don't see the Postell comparison, and think the Sir Dom one ends with similar energy, I will move to another sport to make this point. Simon plays his basketball like Derek Jeter played baseball. He doesn't try to do too much. He is not a great shooter, so he limits his 3 point attempts to being open with feet set. My guess he mainly look for the 3 from his favorite spots on the floor. He crashes the boards, but not recklessly, and defends the same way. I don't remember too many, if any, silly fouls. Not easy when you are all over the place like Simon. He is not showing any rust, even though he played less minutes 2 seasons ago than Clark, who seems to need a little more time to get into the flow. He obviously needs work from the line. I think he will get there because he plays the game like a hard worker.

He knows his limitations and doesn't make many mistakes. It's his best quality. Combine that with his amazing athleticism, rebounding, passing and overall prowess and he's gonna be an incredible overall layer for us. He's got lots of different skills. He doesn't force things and again, that cerebral play is gonna get him to the next level. He's barely scratching the surface of his potential, and he's almost triple doubling... a third guard like him is

Would think with his abilities and not playing for a yr his shot would have been better from inside the ark I assume both Chris and Richmond BOTH Who were top NBA scorers it would have rubbed off. I like all his other skills see him improving every yr with a chance to play at the next level

Also Justin Simon, a 6-5 guard, also *leads* the Big East in rebounds AND steals, #4 in assists AND blocks.

Arizona transfer has been an absolute steal for St. John's. #sjubb

Justin Simon's defensive rating (73.8) is the third-best in NCAA among players playing 25+ mpg -- behind Texas star Mo Bamba and UNC-Greensboro's James Dickey.

Simon has been everything we could of asked for so far. Fits like a glove, considering our lack of rebounding in the frontcourt. Doesnt try to do too much and sticks to his strengths, love that about him. Not to mention he can straight lock his man up. Tony Allen anyone?

I see Simon as being our "glue guy"
He plays more on an even keel than some of other guys who seem to play with more emotion
Simon was a great get for us and will develop into the team leader and captain during his career at St John's

Very positive piece on the kid. Obviously, a great 'get' for St. John's. An all-around talent; bet his shooting continues to improve. Would love for that to include his foul shooting %-age!

That’s one of the things I love about him. He does a lot of things well. He is a glue guy. People seem to rely on stats too much. Defense is one of those things not shown on the stat sheet. It sure helps win games. On a positive note, thats one area from last year we really improved. Now if Ponds could just get his shot back.
