I see so much Lavor Postell in Justin Simon. Amazing hops, defender, great competitor. Simon is a better passer and ill give shooting edge to Lavor but man oh man so much alike. BTW- Lavor was one of my all time favs.

As i watch him play i find myself thinking we found our new Sir' Dom. Different game in some regards but his role on our team is eerily similar

Simon is smaller, and much more fluid offensively, but the there are similarities in the impact they have on the game, especially WRT defense and rebounding (though, Pointer, with his height, could also block shots).

Good comparisons to great players. I'd say the differences are that Postell was so amazing under the basket on both ends then became a good outside shooter. He started as more of an undersized 4 and became good enough at the 2 to get a look from the NBA. I'd say he thrived in the 1/2 court while Simon thrives full court.

The difference between Simon and Sir Dom is that Simon has played in control and made consistently good decisions from the first moment. No knock on Pointer who was a fav. He was always a talented contributor but took Pointer a few seasons to be consistent.

You mean pointer dribbling out of control coast to coast only to somehow make an acrobatic layup wasnt "fluid" :D I agree with your points, theyre not at all the same player or even build but their impact on the team is.

To this day, I have a hard time getting around the fact that Postell was actually from Albany, GA, because he was a New York-style player, through and through.

Postell played ball on Long Island. @panther2# ?

Our college version of Andre Igudola has been a god send. He’s been a monster rebounding the ball and he runs the court like a Gazelle.

Arizona loss, our huge gain.

Last but not least. He’s only a So. Reminds me of DJ. Poised and does a lot of things well . Not all of them show up in stats. Think he will be here another 2 years. If he improves his shot might be an NBA player, has nice size.

Simon is the perfect compliment to the games of Ponds and Lovett. He allows both to "freelance" a little on the offensive end since he is more of a point than either one. Great fit for our team.

If he gets himself an outside shot I think he would be an NBA player. Size, athleticism, smarts, good defender and passer, gets to rim. Seems like only thing missing is outside shot and he has 3 years to improve in this area and has Mo and Mitch to help him. It seems with a lot of players they really improve between April after they finish college and the next basketball season as they really work hard on their shot. Why not start now, here is hoping Mr. Simon works very hard on improving his shot now. Maybe he is. Take 500 to a 1,000 shots a day. It will pay off in the long run.

most importantly fellas, he doesn't force shots, way over looked in evaluating him as a player. He plays to his strengths , unlike some....ummmm Amar! lol. Go johnnies!!!!

In addition to his speed, hands, hops and moves around the hoop he seems to be able to anticipate and make the right play.

Lavor Postell is my favorite player of the post-Mullin era. (Sir Dominic a close second.) Great insight. Simon, very similar. Super athletic, smart, smooth and just a sophomore. Might make it into the NBA if his game improves.

Actually while there are comparisons athletically to Pointer and Postell, I don't see comparisons in style of play or basketball ability.

At this stage, I think its fair to discount rebounding or defense. I'm not saying it isn't there, but before i christen him a great defender or rebounder, I would with old judgment till he locks diwn a premier player or grabs 10 rebounds against big, top d1 opponent.

However, running the point and the break, you can easily see great vision and court presence. I dont think we've ever had a true point who is that big. I think Looie would have loved his pass first, shoot when open mentality in the halfcourt. As this season progresses, as Lovett and Ponds dice up defenses there may be plenty of opportunities for Simon to burn defenses who slack off him. I'm pretty sure it's not his intention, but he may be 4th leading scorer at seasons end, third if Ahmed becomes a little more selective.

Best thing you can say is that if his teammates continue to trust that Simon will get them good looks, they will seize on opportunities rather than force the action.

If that happens, selection Sunday may be a day to stay glued to your tv. Long way to go before then, and a lot of ball to play.

Tarik Turner 6-5 point.
