Justin Simon a Great Addition

Justin Simon during St. John's three-game winning streak: 12.3 PPG, 8.7 RPG, 6.7 APG. A reliable jump shot away from being an All-Big East first-team player. #SJUBB

Simon currently 2nd in BE in both assists & steals, 6th in rebounds and 10th in blocks. Ponds 2nd in scoring, 1st in steals, 6th in assists. Add Dixon to these two next year and we'll be tough to deal with.

He's a terrific weapon and seemingly great kid.

Best part.......he's likely here for two more years.

Given that would make him a five-year guy, I'm thinking one more year is more likely, especially if his shooting improves.

Justin has been a pleasant surprise down the stretch. Very unorthodox shooting form needs lots of work in the off season and his free throws lack consistency. He does every thing else well and I expect a big year from him next season.

Needs to put up 1,000 jump shots per day, after they develop his form, in the summer. Will continue to improve as floor general. Got a chance to be really good.

Love his game but that shooting form makes me cringe.

Makes me think what his shot would have looked like if he didn't sit out..... worse or after a full year of practice it didn't get much better and that's what he's got form wise.

Shooting & handling ball were not his strong suits & reasons why he was played over at Zona. Lucky for us.

Overall, shooting % not bad. 45% from the field. 39% from 3. Problem is that he started the season 6 for 7 from 3, and 4 of 19 since. I'm not worried about his form; it is what it has been for years and will likely be years from now. The thing about his shot is that it is feast or famine. it wither goes n, or misses by a mile. Quality shooters are going to miss their fair share, but will always be around he basket. You can't get too many friendly rolls if you miss by a wide margin.

What's great about Simon is that he brings so many things to the table that help you win. Relives Ponds of constant ball handing responsibilities; defends, rebounds, does little things. Clark was great tonight and has been our best three point shooter, but what he needs to work on his figuring out how to impact on a game when his 3 ball isn't falling. Simon missed some chippies tonight but fills the stat sheet otherwise.

He was also 2/2 from 3 tonight. I noticed he has a pretty good mid range game when he stays under control. I would be interested to see his mid range shooting % compared to his FT%.

Simon has been great. In my mind he plays a similar role to Ellison but with 4 star talent. He needs to continue to work on the consistency and speed of getting off his shot so he has more confidence in it.

Clark in my mind is a better version of Ahmed. Hopefully next season he can improve his rebounding.

I am hopeful that the core four will return next season and to that we need to add another shooter and a solid interior player. Hopefully we have that in our newcomers or will still find someone. Hopefully Trimble can continue to provide good defense and knock down a few shots.

I realized that I used the word hopeful a number of times.....

Andrew, I like you but please don't compare Ellison and Simon with favorable comparisons, or even use them in the same sentence. Simon is an elite rebounder for a point guard, and helps make up our lack of size up front. He has great court vision, and only negative is he has/had a correctable tendency (as does Ponds) to try to make the slick pass instead of the more efficient simple pass. I wouldn't mess with the form on his outside shot right now because it has been effective (think Reggie Carter). Even with bad form, he is our version of a 5 tool player in baseball - he doesn't do all things at the highest level, but can do everything rebound, score, pass, handle the ball, etc. Something very few college or pro players can do. A huge asset, and I'm glad Arizona didn't have a place for him.

Simon is a hustle guy with high level talent who can effectively guard any position. My favorite type of player. Like I said, fixate on his shot form, meanwhile he has flirted with a triple double more than any player in recent history. Last night he shot 6-11, 2-2, 2-2 (zero turnovers). This guy is a dream and we'd be nowhere without his rebounding. Last night was his season low I believe for rebounding but he otherwise played a fairly flawless game in iron man minutes. I absolutely love him. Didn't expect him to be a sharpshooter any more than I expected Clark to be an interior banger. Fixate on whatever downside you can find or enjoy good things while you have them. Tempus Fugit.

I thought that someone might cringe when I mentioned Ellison. Obviously no comparison to Simon.
