Interesting story, my wife's grandfather was on the USS Ancon as the only broadcaster providing live radio commentary from off the coast of Normandy. It was via the Blue Network and was distributed nationally via pool feed throughout the US to communicate what was happening to the American people. This led to him being one of the original stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, before you could buy yourself one.

My father was chief engineer on a sea going tug during the war and was at both DDay and the battle of Iwo Jima. For any who may be interested, attached is a film produced by my nephew, Dylan Wallace; he documented my Dad‘s war experiences a few years ago, before his death last year. Dylan is an aspiring documentary filmmaker and this was his first crack, he was a junior in college at the time.
