Julius Hodge fires shots at SJU/Big East

Malik Beasley's father, Michael, tweeted about his son visiting MSG and St John's. Julius Hodge then tweeted to Beasley's father:

"@IAmMikeBeasley he's too good for that team/league. #respect"

Hodge also tweeted: "#random Steve Lavin should have added Tiny to his staff n he would of had Whitehead. That kid potentially will change Seton Hall's identity."

He also said that the Big East is now a mid-major conference.

Well one can argue it is. Look, like it or not the BE and every other non BCS conference has a rough future ahead of it. Times have changed and will continue to..........

Is this the same highly-touted Hodge who went from the city to nc state, then came to the garden and choked vs. us in the Holiday Festival? After the game his coach whined about the refs not protecting his little baby. Sounds like they're both cut from the same cloth.

where was Hodge tweeting from ? Last I heard he was playing in Lebanon or Gaza or something like that

Sure he could argue the BE is a mid-major. But the problem is, Hodge didn't stop. He also said Lavin should have hired Morton just to get Whitehead. To that I say screw him. I didn't want any part of that smarmy leech part of this program. Even if it meant losing out on Whitehead.

Someone should remind Hodge about that on Twitter.

in the vernacular: #whiny #loser #still embarrassed by his MSG humiliation and not man enough to just move on...

Most kids even if they are otherwise complete morons or a-holes, have learned by the time they get to college that even if you are a sore loser, you spout the standard lines about giving credit to the other team. You do this in a gracious win or even if you are too big of a tool to be gracious you at least are smart enough to understand that it is self-serving because making the opponent you just beat sound better makes your win sound better. But especially in a loss you learn what to say even if you are not feeling it. After the undermanned team led by Norm Roberts/Eugene Lawrence trounced his top 25 team (by something like 18 or 19 points) all he could do was whine and talk about how bad a team St. John's was. For all his hype as a recruit and his so called leadership at NC State, he got schooled by Dexter Gray while shooting air balls at the World's Most Famous Arena. Perhaps he's looking for a spot on the SHU squad in which case they would have the Tiny and Whiny show over there...

Hodge is certainly no college BB guru but his comments are what SJU is facing in the future. What I find scary is where would we be if one of the other coaching candidates were hired instead of Lavin. Maybe a few more wins but I don't think we would have any chance at top recruits.
That hire was made when the BE was the top conference. If Lavin leaves because SJU doesn't extend or he gets an opportunity in the ACC or PAC 10 who do we hire?

Julius Hodge is softer than dogshit. We weren't too bad of a team/program to destroy his NC State team by 15...we had leads of like 30 too. Pathetic. He is one step up the disappointment ladder from Lenny Cooke.

Don't believe I made any mention of Whitehead or Morton. I also said one could argue, not Hodge specifically. I don't have a lot of respect for him or his opinion but I am not thrilled with what I see on the horizon for SJU and BE basketball abd chose to comment on that.

Forgot about the Hodge pc remarks. I remember that game. He was being booed from the intros to every time he touched the ball in the first half. He was cheered with every miss, so I don't understand why he's still got a bug up his a--, because he was cheered plenty.

And that is exactly why we need some posters to rip him on twitter and explain that he is a bitter sore loser to Mr. Beasley. I would if I was on twitter . . . but I feel kind of psycho signing up for something I've purposely avoided just to attack Hodge.

I think I just started my first twitter war.

@JuliusHodge #you're a #two-bit #doofus for #making those #comments about @SaintJons. Does the #Helms #Trophy mean #nuthin to #you?!?

These dumb ass comments aside, Hodge was exactly the type of player we wanted and would still take. He was not soft, he was tough and he led NC State to some good years. To say he is one step up the disappointment ladder from Cook is ridiculous. This guy graduated from college, and had arguably a great career while doing so.

Screw him for making these comments but a bad player he was not.

What he did against us, while funny, is not relevant here. Lets talk about his comments, which have a lot of validity and merit to them IMO. I suspect you see the Donovan Mitchell cases of the world becoming a norm. The conference had a very poor showing out of conference and in the NCAA tournament but the league will only be weaker this year and without the big time draw of McDermott.

With the Big Five conferences drawing a line in the sand, the Big East really needs to keep up with the moves they make in terms of athletes rights and extra benefits they will receive. The AAC has already pledged to cover new cost of attendance guidelines if the Big Five approve them. The Big East would be wise to come out and do the same. The conference MUST be progressive here and must keep up with the facilities/financial support rat race of college athletics.

As for Hodge's comments about Beasley being too good for the "team" here, as many of us have said on here, the staff still has a lot to prove in terms of their competence.

Hodge is a college basketball player, nothing more, nothing less. His thoughts and announcements are moot. I would say he is irrelevant!

There will be and probably are right now quite a few people (including recruiters) who are saying the same thing or worst to recruits.

This is a critical time for St. John's and yes the big East because right now the FBS conferences are king.
