I've barely heard Joey De La Rosa's name mentioned since it was confirmed he was coming here this year. Is he expected to play any type of role for us this year?

I think the reason his name has barely been mentioned is that he is expected to barely contribute. Don't see how the loss of Thomas and Adonis changes that much, except that he's a body and 5 fouls. FWIW I don't think he's eligible the first semester.

When he committed the consensus was that he'd play 7-10 minutes a game. After he failed to report in good shape, those estimates dropped to 0-5 mpg. Many were calling for a redshirt.

He got himself into relatively decent shape at the end of his high school season but ballooned over the summer.

It's a bigger pr hit than anything else, but it would have been nice to have a monster 7-footer with skill to pull off the bench to change things up inside.

Thread is about Joey, not Adonis. But since Adonis thread was pulled for unknown reasons, guess we should continue the conversation here.

Also no matter how much some want to make ADR a 7 footer, he comes up in the 6'9-610" range, big difference.

Given that he averaged 1 pt and 1 reb at a lower level D! school I predict he increases those stats tenfold and averages a double double and makes first team all BE at the end of the season. :silly:

Hahaha Dangers of posting from your phone I guess.
I'll take another shot....

4-6 minutes (more if CO is hurt or in foul trouble) with 5 hard fouls to give. Monster size which is reassuring if for no other reason than stopping the ice capades our bigs have been subjected to the last few years. I'm not ready to write him off just yet. Chances are he's a stiff, but he was sought after out of high school, bigs take longer to develop, and he's only played 30-35 college games--half of which he was too out of shape to play more than a few minutes.

I think Alibegovic will be the first big to get minutes at both the 4 and 5 to back up Dom and CO, respectively.

I imagine Alibegovic and Jones will both be tried as the first 4/5 off the bench and whoever is providing the more serviceable play will get the burn. It may well depend on matchups given the height and strength/athleticism differences between them. And if neither of them are getting it done we'll see a lot of 4 guard rotations.

Very very very little. Anything else you are dreaming. In response to mjdinkins question on the Adonis thread I also expected very little from Adonis for the next season or two but said if he committed to getting himself into great shape he could contribute earlier.

Can a moderator please explain why there is no Adonis thread?
I understood the temporary disappearance, but it's kind've a newsworthy topic at the moment.

They must run up one hell of a monthly grocery bill in that house.

Do you really need an explanation, Desco? Have it tomorrow.

i think that Joey's importance is that he is just a big body.
We are so thin upfront we need everyone on deck, and even if he gives us hard (not flagrant or intentional) fouls and solid minutes with some rebounds I would be happy.
If we are expecting him to put up 25 and 10 we will be disappointed but we need minutes and to help Chris down low. You cant teach height.

It was just a WTF. None of the mods intentionally pulled it. Somebody probably hit a button by accident when reading the thread. Then it took some time to make sure that nobody had meant to pull it, after which it was put back.

Sorry to disappoint the conspiracy theorists who think that all of the mods go home every night, put on their SJU pajamas, kiss their Lavin bobble-heads on top of the keppe, and scour the site to remove every remotely anti-St Johns or anti-Lavin comment. Believe it or not, the diversity of opinion among the mods is pretty reflective of the diversity of opinion on the site.

By the way, none of us expect anything out of JDR. And we all hate Syracuse.

I wish I had read this before my most recent posting on the Briscoe thread. I guess my disapproval of past deletions had me all fired up. My apologies.

He is the most important walk on at SJU along with the kid from California. I smell a mid year scholarship for someone.

I thought I had read somewhere along the way that Joey was a 10 and 10 guy at St. Ray's as a soph(?), so it's weird that he never developed into anything. You would think a guy with those stats at that school would be good for 4 or 5 rpg as a college supersenior.
