JMU / To Build New Basketball Arena

i wonder what it would cost to put a heating system in the Tennis stadium at Flushing Meadow and make it possible to hold events there . If that was possible and a portable floor available , that would be a nice alternative . Public transportation and parking would not be a problem .
 
A ten thousand seat arena on campus would probably be a morgue.

I believe Goff wants 7500 seats and MSG for big games. It could happen if he is successful making a value proposition for building a new arena in the parking lot next to CA, and possibly keeping the old building - I forgot what he said about that. It could be razed and a parking deck built.
 
Anton Goff was a phenomenal selection for AD!

He is articulate and very polished. He speaks passionately about need for a 7500 to 8000 seat on campus arena. If anybody is going to get it done, it will be him.
 
Other than expanding the seating at the baselines to create more of a "PIT" feeling and some comfort amenities we could probably leave Carnesecca alone. With a new arena coming at Belmont and the possibility of using Arthur Ashe at the tennis center as a basketball venue, we are probably stadiumed out.

Our younger fans for sure don't remember how raucous Alumni Hall would become when filled to the rafters to play Syracuse. Fans would cram into the bleacher seats and spill over into the aisles. It was so loud that you couldn't hear yourself speak, and I'd frequently have a sore throat the next day. There was an excitement just walking into the building for a big game.

7500 would accommodate most Big East games, with MSG reserved for the teams that could sell it out. Still and all Villanova playing in Wells Fargo gets a home court advantage, Villanova playing at MSG at best is a push.

Hope he gets it done. And the 'cure' for putting student fans in the seats is a very competitive team with a good shot to beat the best opponent that dares to enter the 'arena' year in and year out. We've had losing records--many woeful--for 12 of the past 24 years since 1993-4.That's a deterrent to fan enthusiasm and loyalty. I think we've 'turned the corner'--but it is still early in the 'revival'. Here's hoping.
