Jim Calhoun Taking Medical Leave

I would love to be able to say when the going gets tuff big Jim goes on sick call. The truth probably a combination of age, health and the administration looking to make a change.

I wish him all the best, and a full recovery. But i see this benefiting us in future recruiting.

Not just future recruiting. Even current recruiting as they made Chris Obekpa a priority. Hope Calhoun is ok and probably time for him to retire. Guy has won it all several times. I thought he would have retired already.

I wonder if the Calhoun bootlicking media throwing out "rumors" about Calhoun calling it a career.

This is what drove me crazy about using prostate cancer to recruit against Lavin.

Calhoun makes Keith Richards look like Brad Pitt, yet no one blinks when he gets kids to "walk-on."

I hope he lives healthy and happy to 100. But I will never ever wish anything but absolute slow, smoldering hell for his program.

i hope coach recovers but funny how he just went into medical leave after a losing streak. should have retired after winning the championship.

I have no love for Calhoun, but let's be fair here. If he retires off that national title, with the penalties already handed down, he would have looked like a real weasel for skimping out on that 3-game conference suspension.

BTW. did anybody hear Michelle Yu make fun of him on Tuesday night (Marquette-Seton Hall pregame)? Tim Welsh was talking about how this year for UCONN, has been eerily similar to last year for UCONN. At the end he says, "the difference is that last year, Jim had Kemba Walker to carry his team in the postseason." Michelle Yu's response was, "or as Jim Calhoun was fond of calling him, 'Kember'".

I hope he is well enough to coach against STJ next year so we can beat the hell out of them with him on the sidelines.

Very well said! I never wish any coach ill health. But the Uconn program needs to go DOWN!

UCONN represents the BE well. Not really hoping they go down, just hoping we overtake them.Wouldnt mind seeing Syracuse go down.

Hey, I can't stand some of the sideline rants, but to be fair, UCONN was simply CONNECTICUT before Calhoun. He has done an amazing job, and is a HOF coach. Wish him good health.

Uconn was, and is, ready to jump to the ACC if they would take them. Knocking them down a few notches and Calhoun retiring makes them less attractive. Whether they stay or leave, I will continue to root against them every game. Go Seton Hall Pirates!

I'd be lying if I said the 4 game losing streak didn't cross my mind.

But spinal stenosis can be really really bad and can end a career. Someone in my office has it and at one point he couldn't even walk to the elevator without being in such pain he had to sit down and rest. ( he's now taking neurontin ) and after taking it for awhile it's helped to the point where he can walk further but still not that far.

Another guy who used to work in my office has it so bad nothing is even working and he can barely leave the house. When some of us got together for dinner he could barely even get out of his car without help

Definitely a potential career ender if the pain is that bad

Waatched him last week whenj UConn lost again . He looked thin and lacked any emotion . was he medicated ????

Don't have any particular love for Calhoun, and I think he's carried himself like a jerk at times. But I wish the UCONN program nothing but good luck. I want us to beat them at their best, having them struggle doesn't do anything for me.

Countdown until the predictable Alexd appearance ...

Lawman... One day I'm going to bring AlexD out to one of the games in NYC. He loves Uconn, but despite that he's a fantastic guy and fan... You guys would hate him because you liked him too much. :lst:  Fantastic guy who thinks his program is clean because Jim Calhoun says so... ;)
