Jim Boeheim a class act. NOT!!

The only thing I'll say about Calhoun is he seemed to develop talent extremely well and had a great pipeline to the NBA for quite awhile there.

Can't dispute Jimmy boy's success up in Syracuse, but I too find him a little on the creepy, slimy side.

And if by come remote chance SJU had a vacancy tomorrow, and Calhoun took the job, there would be pandemonium on this board.

do u know how bad uconn was before he got there?

Seeing how he has hired in 1986 and I was born in 1983, no I don't have any recollection of UConn basketball in the first 3 years of my life or prior lol.

We beat up on them from the time they joined the conference in 79 until Calhoun won the NIT in 87 the way Syracuse beat up on us the last twenty years.

i would have to agree with TIS regarding Calhoun here.
Calhoun is on the Mount Rushmore of college bb coaches.
Boeheim is still a legend and I would love if he were our coach.

Mt Rushmore?

it is a reference to Mount Rushmore (the mountain with the presidents faces). if there were one for college bball coaches i would put calhoun on there. as unlikable as he is, he can flat out coach.

No $&@( lol, but Mt. Rushmore??

Hes a great coach. Only coach K has been as consistent over the last 30 years. Look at SU s record over the last 20 years than look at ours.

Calhoun was twice the coach as both of them.

Why do you think he was twice the coach?

I had the misfortune of living in Ct. for his entire tenure.
With what he had, the best BB coach I've ever seen.
Look at his talent compared to boeheim's and shusheski's.
And national championships head to head with dook.

The guys can coach. The guy can recruit. The guy can cheat. The guy has fire in his gut, no, wait, an inferno. He demands excellence and gets it. If he might be on the market, Monasch would be well advised to place a friendly phone call. If Repole helped finance this, I'd think he's sell a horse or two to finance this for 4 years.

It was so bad that many people thought they should withdraw from the Big East, that they could never be competitive with the Catholic schools. Times change.

Jimmy boy could not even give credit to the Dayton team for knocking him out of the dance. What a sore loser.

He now owns the unique honor of being the first coach to have six losses to a double seeded team in the NCAA tournament.

He has never been a gracious loser...not that we have put many losses on his record lately (or ever), but his "blow bys" on the handshake line after a loss are routine

I can only assume the Mt. Rushmore of college coaches has a lot more than 4 men on it.

I would like to know who he is leaving off

Well lets all agree that Wooden, Knight and Dean Smith are the first three. Who is fourth would be a great debate. Hard to argue that Stutterin Jim would beat Ratface or Pitino to the Mount from the coaches of the last 30, I think. His 3 natty's are good but he's only made 4 final fours. Personally I'd have Uncle Roy ahead of him as well but he's clearly in the all time top 10.

Also don't we have to include Rupp and maybe Phog Allen? In the top 10 but no mt Rushmore

I think I would actually prefer a guy who is so ticked at a loss that he shakes hands quickly and moves on, rather than a guy being all smiles and warmth in the first moments after a tough loss. Part of what makes guys like Boeheim, Calhoun, and Michael Jordan exceptional winners is that they aren't out there to make friends - they are out to win every way they can.

Wow I had no idea, and this is coming from a UConn graduate. They do a good job of keeping those things under wraps up at good old Storrs lol.

Just wondering what abuse Louie would have taken on this board back in the day

I'm actually a Braves fan as well, and you should see the abuse Bobby Cox used to get on Braves forums I'd be on. He'd get trashed like he was one of the worst managers, and the guy is a hall of fame manager.

Calhoun an outstanding coach.

Boeheim, another outstanding coach.

Can't argue with their success, year after year.

That Calhoun got 3 titles is a testament to him and his players, but a play here or there along the way and it could have been JB will three and Calhoun 1.

Looie was a great coach but we got one final four during his tenure. The longevity of their success is amazing and pretty much at one school for JB at least.

We'd have been fortunate for either JB or Calhoun taking the reins from Looie.

Neither guy is particularly politically correct, and prickly personalities, not like Looie at all, but who out there is like Looie.

I think JB regrets some of his antics, but I liked how he stood up for the BE during those many years when the ACC tried to tear it down. He still doesn't like the ACC, and that's fine by me.

Every time I see this thread, I wince at the subject line and its unironic, unintentional ode to Borat.
