I think they are saying he could play this year and next by being granted a redshirt for his junior season.

Right now he is eligible only for the rest of this season. He and Felix both can petition the NCAA for another season of eligibility. A lot goes into the decision, (how many games you played, how many games you played, the date or need of the last game you played, etc.). They both have a good chance of getting the year back, Balamou even more so,

There are a lot of things that go into it but if you are a player who sat on the bench dressed and just played in a few games does not make you eligible to petition for another year.

The crowd reaction was pretty funny as he shot his first free-throw - I heard an audible gasp of some fellow fans around me. I think the entire crowd was doing some mental re-calibration as soon as he hitched and then released the first shot, as if to say "ok, we get it now..."

Maybe this was not just his first trip to the free throw line as a Johnnie but his first trip to the free throw line ever.
