I've seen him a couple times and he is a great 4 year kid! Smart heady kid that can shoot it a bit, quick good handle...... Not a star but would be a nice program kid
At this point we need stars to boost our peogram

Great choice. I never could figure out why more kids don't go there.

We had him but he got smart and bolted. He was a class kid and quite a ball player.
Another era.
Jarvis didn't play him much.. He had a nice career at Northwestern. Very Heady ballplayer who could shoot, pass and made his teammates better. He could have done the same at St jOHN'S if given the chance..
Any chance, if he opens up, that we make a play for him? I like coaches and former players kids. They tend to have high IQ and solid fundamentals---something we sorely need. Hopefully, he can also hit some threes.
I hope not
What don't you like about him?
Should not have posted that really. I coached against the kid many times and frankly never liked his court demeanor or attitude. Embarrassed and mocked players lesser than him and for an old, old school man I just didn't like it. Back in the day, we would have taken care of it ourselves but you just can't play that way anymore. One move in particular, he would get the ball and fake baseball throwing it into the defenders face and laugh when they cringed; just classless IMO. I will not take away that he can play however.

Sounds like he'd fit in perfect with another current Johnnie 'favorite'
If you are referring to Harrison I would say no. Harrison to me is immature in that he hasn't learned to control his emotions and OK, he deserved what he got but IMO if he gets another chance at SJU fine; I have no problem with that. Although you might not think that from my posts I will root for the kid to grow up and succeed wherever he plays. I think he is a good kid at heart and just needs to corral and focus the emotions positively, not negatively. With Sina, I just found the act ridiculous for a young kid, punk stuff and frankly, I let it be known through a 3rd party to their coaching staff that should he pull that crap against us, we would "accidently" throw a pass at his face point blank when he least expected it; maybe classless in itself, but I grew up on the playground and that's how we did it. Embarass me playing ball is one thing and OK in my book but don't go over the line; then all bets are off. Luckily, it never came to that. We played them 5 or 6 times and although we could compete we never really came that close; lost between 8 and 12 every time. They were good and almost all, if not all of that team that played AAU together forever, went to Gill St. Bernards together and they were good there too. A couple of the kids graduated last year and they took a step backwards this year for sure. Frankly, I don't know what kind of year Sina had this year but some people think the advantage of playing with the same squad for 6-7 years and than playing HS together made those kids look better than they really are. Don't know if that's true or not, but I always thought Sina could play.

Boom or bust.
@TheRecruitScoop: 2013 Gill St. Bernard's (NJ) PG Jaren Sina tells me he remains wide open in the process following in-home visits w/ Alabama & Seton Hall.
If this is true, we need to go after this kid.

Agree completely , we need more than the boom or bust recruiting philosophy IMHO.
Sina would bring a lot to the table for this team.

What boom or bust recruiting philosophy? We have one scholarship and we have targeted Jordan. So we offer Sina or Severe at the very last moment after not recruiting them and all the work for Jordan is thrown away? What message does that send to recruits down the road? We obviously may or may not get Jordan but it realy sends the wrong message to not stay the course. I am as disappointed in our year as any realistic fan but Lavin and co. need to follow their plan, not resort to panic. Things have been tough but it was no easy task these guys signed up for. Real rocky year for sure but the program didn't catch many breaks either with the Harkless and Dunlap jumps, Harrison's shenanigans and Branch's injuries, not to mention Sanchez and Lavin's cancer. We need to stabilize and stabilizing means sticking to your plan, not panickiing.

Lavin never should have said he's ok with missing out on our '13 targets. You can't handcuff yourself to a recruit, regardless of your ship count.
Jordan wanted to announce (to whom we don't know) back in November and his coach told him to wait.
You can't feel sorry for recruits' feelings when they don't feel sorry for yours.
Jordan had one official at SJU and attended our game vs Nova. But he's been to Temple games countless times.
It's an arms race. We have one ship and a solid roster in place for next year. As a coach, you always should cover your behind with contingency plans. We can't wait until 4/15 to start chasing other players. That's absurd.
Obekpa's recruitment dragged out and we pursued other players. If Obekpa wanted to catch feelings, that's on him.
Jordan knows exactly where he wants to go at this point. If his first name was Michael, you wait for him. It's not.
Sina brings skillsets to the table that this team sorely needs. You'd have to be stupid not to have exploratory talks with him. Especially seeing that his father is a Coach and knows exactly how this recruiting game works. Just be upfront with him.

Countless NYC kids have attended many games ar SJ only to go to other schools out of town.
Alabama has recruited Sina hard and they have a fine young coach so it is a long shot for us.
Our problem now is whose ships to pull.

Jordan was attending Temple games for a team that made the tourney and featured the A10 POY. It gives him something positive to envision himself doing.
You can't wait on one recruit and not have a backup plan. And I honestly don't think they're that stupid to do so. May not be Sina/Severe but they'd have to be looking at someone right now as they would be foolish not to believe that Jordan is a Temple lean right now.

In bold: I've stated several times that this is overrated. Eric Bossi, who talks to kids far more often than we do, recently had this to say:
How much does a team's NCAA performance matter to recruits?
-- Micah, Dallas (via email)
My general view is that it doesn't really seem to matter all that much, or at least not as much as I wish it did. I do think that many recruits would at least like the chance to play in the tournament, but nobody is cutting Kentucky off their list because they lost to Robert Morris in the NIT.
Kansas didn't lose traction with recruits for losing to Northern Iowa or VCU. I talk to kids all the time getting recruited by Texas who bring up Kevin Durant and what he did for the program when they lost in the second round in his year. The fact is that kids for the most part care about their relationship with the coach and playing style. Obviously, regular tournament success is another selling point so I don't in any way mean to discount that it can help. I just don't think it makes a big difference in the grand scheme of things.
Personally, I wish kids would take a lot longer look at the postseason success of teams. Especially when it comes to picking a team that has continually struggled in one league versus a team that maybe plays in a lesser league but always competes for titles and NCAA Tourney appearances.

Jordan a Temple-lean? Based on what?
Jordan has been a frequent visitor to Temple games during the 2012-13 season and at St. John's the Red Storm should be returning a team full of long and athletic players with whom Jordan would fit in nicely. Steve Lavin and the Red Storm, much like UCLA, have also been a rumored leader at time.

Hmmmmmmm.... Sounds like something I was similarly told about 3 months ago.
Hey! Maybe, he is a now Temple-lean, but there hasn't been anything there to sufficiently support it.

That is all well and good but what does your gut tell you?
And for the last time, all I'm saying is have a backup plan. Don't handcuff yourself to one kid.
