Jaren Sina, PG - Seton Hall

@TheRecruitScoop: Indiana is now involved with 2013 PG Jaren Sina, who is focusing on Northwestern, Seton Hall & Alabama, but remains wide open, per a source.

But he's not worth our time, huh.

No one ever stated he wasn't worth our time. We can't offer him based on our schlolarship situation, and being locked into a recruitment with a player who plays the same position as Sina, and currently a better player than Sina.

A backup point guard is a critical missing piece. Otherwise we are a Branch ankle sprain away from a team with better parts that don't have a way to work well together.

Maybe he doesn't want to come to a Catholic University

I think you're being facetious, simply. LOL

Basically, the staff isn't gonna deviate from their plan of possibly landing Jordan. They would find creative ways to nab a player, if the situation arises.

The staff can't just turn their back on Jordan's recruitment because a few fans aren't patient or confident in the recruitment. As, long as they are confident is all that matters.

I'd have no qualms about the staff going after Sina, if they wasn't seriously involved with Jordan or, if they had additional scholarships available. But that's not the case.

+1 Branch does seem to be injury prone.

@TheRecruitScoop: 2013 Gill St. Bernard's (NJ) PG Jaren Sina tells me he remains wide open in the process following in-home visits w/ Alabama & Seton Hall.

If this is true, we need to go after this kid.

Agree completely , we need more than the boom or bust recruiting philosophy IMHO.
Sina would bring a lot to the table for this team.

What boom or bust recruiting philosophy? We have one scholarship and we have targeted Jordan. So we offer Sina or Severe at the very last moment after not recruiting them and all the work for Jordan is thrown away? What message does that send to recruits down the road? We obviously may or may not get Jordan but it realy sends the wrong message to not stay the course. I am as disappointed in our year as any realistic fan but Lavin and co. need to follow their plan, not resort to panic. Things have been tough but it was no easy task these guys signed up for. Real rocky year for sure but the program didn't catch many breaks either with the Harkless and Dunlap jumps, Harrison's shenanigans and Branch's injuries, not to mention Sanchez and Lavin's cancer. We need to stabilize and stabilizing means sticking to your plan, not panickiing.

Lavin never should have said he's ok with missing out on our '13 targets. You can't handcuff yourself to a recruit, regardless of your ship count.

Jordan wanted to announce (to whom we don't know) back in November and his coach told him to wait.

You can't feel sorry for recruits' feelings when they don't feel sorry for yours.

Jordan had one official at SJU and attended our game vs Nova. But he's been to Temple games countless times.

It's an arms race. We have one ship and a solid roster in place for next year. As a coach, you always should cover your behind with contingency plans. We can't wait until 4/15 to start chasing other players. That's absurd.

Obekpa's recruitment dragged out and we pursued other players. If Obekpa wanted to catch feelings, that's on him.

Jordan knows exactly where he wants to go at this point. If his first name was Michael, you wait for him. It's not.

Sina brings skillsets to the table that this team sorely needs. You'd have to be stupid not to have exploratory talks with him. Especially seeing that his father is a Coach and knows exactly how this recruiting game works. Just be upfront with him.

Countless NYC kids have attended many games ar SJ only to go to other schools out of town.
Alabama has recruited Sina hard and they have a fine young coach so it is a long shot for us.
Our problem now is whose ships to pull.

For all those countless NYC kids who attended SJU games, how many of those teams we had were NCAA tourney teams or featured a conference player of the year on them? Probably none.

Jordan was attending Temple games for a team that made the tourney and featured the A10 POY. It gives him something positive to envision himself doing.

I'm not saying we'd get Sina nor Severe.

What I'm saying is having a boom or bust mentality is detrimental when you should be constantly trying to improve your roster. You think Calipari is worried about how many ships he has? You think he'd shed a tear if he had to tell Harrow to take a hike because they need to open up a ship?

You can't wait on one recruit and not have a backup plan. And I honestly don't think they're that stupid to do so. May not be Sina/Severe but they'd have to be looking at someone right now as they would be foolish not to believe that Jordan is a Temple lean right now.

As I was saying....

@GoodmanCBS: Kentucky guard Ryan Harrow is transferring to Georgia State, source told CBSSports. Began his career at NC State.

There are quite a few coaches who does it, and there are ways to do it. I think Lavin practically did it with Quincy Roberts. But by mentioning Calipari doesn't exactly help your cause. Not to mention, Calipari can generally get who he wants. I bet Harrow's scholarship has been alloted to one of the best high school players of the past decade.... Andrew Wiggins. I'd run off half the roster, if we were in a prime position to land Wiggins. LOL Just an exaggeration there, but you know what I mean.

You have to remember Kentucky has been after Wiggins for more than a year. There is only player we've been after in that amount of time, and we're still after him. Calipari probably also expected more players from his team to announce for the NBA (and, they still might), and now is caught up in a number's game. So, he has to free up a scholarship.

So, who would you run off to free up an additional scholarship?

Kid will play 3 seasons at 3 separate schools. Allegiance probably not in his vocab. But than again, calipari neither.

I think it was for Wiggins. But regardless, who it was for, it is for someone who probably will be a first round pick next season (the Harrison twins) or possibly, for the #1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft (Wiggins). We have no one we're targeting or currently on our roster who has that kinda value. You move players for those kinda prospects.

Even though it's a conference rival, I am happy for them. The new Big East will only work if we have solid teams from top to bottom.

So very true. I am happy for SH...now we just need Depaul to pick it up.

I believe Depaul just added Rod Strickland as an assistant coach. They've had a ton of transfer requests, so hopefully Rod can bring some energy to the staff.

Depaul could be a monster program. They have excellent attendance figures (way better than STJ) when they are winning, they play in a huge city with a ton of talent, they play in a great league, and they have some wealthy donors behind them. Time is ticking for them...in this football v. nonfootball world, they could be permanently passed over by a number of programs.
