Jakarr Declaring?

Some twitter chatter and a mention on JJ that Sampson may declare tomorrow.. I really hope not. Would be a colossal blunder. Hopefully he at least doesn't sign with an agent and comes to his senses, if this is true.

Oh great now we can see Pointer get more playing time.

For the sake of Sampson, I hope this rumor is not true. This would be a mistake.
This draft is LOADED. Even if he doesn't improve that much next season, he will have a shot next year of getting drafted.

Hint: Work on your free throw shooting JK. That could easily add 3-4 ppg to his average without changing much else.

He made considerable strides in both defense and his jump shot this season. Keep that up, and he'll be a 1st round pick next year with a strong performance.

Serious question: What is the downside to declaring, if he doesn't hire an agent? If he goes undrafted, he can come back if no agent, right?

what an awful decision. just wait one more year jakarr. make the ncaa's and leave on a high note. terrible move unless lavin has some secret super recruit....no adonis de la rosa doesn't count.

If he does declare, this site is going to be the cyber version of the "Out of Coffee" scene from Airplane.

I think if you declare, even without an agent, you must pull yourself back out a little while before the draft or you are no longer eligible even if you don't get drafted.

Under the CBA, a player may withdraw his name from consideration from the draft at any time before the final declaration date, which is 10 days before the draft. However, the NCAA adopted a rule that took effect in August 2009 that requires players at its member institutions to withdraw no later than May 8 to retain their college eligibility; the first draft affected by this rule was the 2010 draft. In 2011, the NCAA further shortened its timeline for players to withdraw and retain eligibility; the deadline now falls one day before the start of the spring signing period for men's basketball, which occurs in April, this year April 16. Most of that is cut and pasted. I believe anyone who declares between April 16 and April 25, the last day to declare per the NBA CBA, will automatically lose all eligibility.
