Jackson vs Sanon

I saw these things as well. Both seemed to be more active on the glass. But the next time either of them manages to keep their man in front of them will be the first time. They should be athletic enough to do it. Not sure what the issue is there. Hopefully it's a work in progress and they get better at guarding the ball.
absolutely! 1000%

Both can definitely be better. Ian is a defensive liability on both switches and defending dribble penetration. He puts our back line bigs into trouble. Mind you, this happens with Darling too. Just levels and they are dealing with elite guards. Sanon too needs better defensive instinct. I trust his shot, but he needs to be more of a threat on offense.

Both have had their struggles, but to me Ian has had more productive flashes offensively. Their D is equally bad, so I’d give Jackson more time than Sanon if the idea is you reward an edge in results.

The wild card as noted by LMF is how well each do in practice and adhering to game plans. Neither has given fans who were over the top on their impact what they expected. Seeing them practice and play in a new system is more sensible than ratings and “stuff” spewed by bloggers.

Long season. Need both to excel.

The team is not near its apex yet. When it is they will have a top 9 that will be very very good. The type of good that allows for some to not be great but still beat good teams because they have enough good players to overcome a bad game by others.

Sellers, Jackson, Sanon, Hopkins, Ejifor, Mitchell, Darling, Prey, Ayo/Odih/Lefty.

Take a deep breath and don't try to over analyze every bad game by player X or Y.

Both have two more years of eligibility. Will either stay for even one more year? These days who knows? But considering just in recent times the jumps that players who give Pitino more than a year (Clayton Jr, Zuby, Jenkins, RJ) can make, well, we know these two have talent. The eligibility intrigues me as I do not see guys ready to go to the NBA and a little continuity would be nice. But I could also be kidding myself and next year they end up at Georgia and Maryland. A guy can dream.

I believe overall the discussion seems based on an asteroid hitting the earth and there not being any future seasons. On that I’ve got nothing as both have shown very intriguing flashes and very concerning flashes. Too soon for me, I’m not a hot take guy. That’s not a swipe at anyone else, different strokes on boards is just fine. I just wanted to jump in because even in this era I like to use some transfer capital on guys who aren’t guaranteed to leave at the end of the year. I haven’t seen much of anything regarding that possibility as a positive in their recruitment.

I’m happy both are at SJU.

They are shooting 40.5 percent from 3. Right now we are an offensive team. Maybe we can get better on defense but we are competing. I was never expecting a final four so I am enjoying the season.

I vote for jackson but Rick seems to have it out for him. Could just be tough love to mold him for March but Rick definitely has a quick hook
Respectfully disagree...I've seen Ian abused on defense...and coach stays with him...the out of bounds play was lazy.
Jackson's 3pt shooting is better than expected

My confidence in both these guys rests in the fact that they both could have gone anywhere but both chose to come to st johns with the hope that Coach Pitino would help them improve vastly to get to the next level. If it were an easy process lots of coaches could be at Rick's level. But it's not, and very few if any are.

When my kids played girls hs basketball I'd often be an official scorekeeper and sit at the scorers table. One very successful ( and annoying) coach at st doms never kept her mouth shut, barking out constant instructions to her players. I hated it and never saw someone do it almost non stop. Till Rick. He is constantly yelling instructions to players and in Vegas being maybe 20 feet from here with smallush crowds could here every word. The facts are that at oresent, not one of our players is playing Rick Pitino basketball and he is yelling non stop because they are out of position on defense, not running plays on offense and fundamentally making tons of mistakes. Our misplaced frustration is that Sanon and Jackson in our minds are supposed to be much better than this.

Even NBA players had a hard time playing Rick Pitino basketball. So i would just say to all of us, myself included, be more patient. As Looie would say after losses like these, "We have to get back to the lab!"

If anything Rick's practices expose some of these kids as uber talented but with much to learn about crushing it at this level.

I virtually guarantee that in a month we will be better, and in two months will be playing the kind of ball us dumb fans expected day 1 from.tbis team. I'd bet you 7 finsl fours, 2 nationsl championships, and ladt year's big east titles that it will happen
