J Cole

I realize I'm one of the few young guys in here, but some of you may be hip hop fans anyway. There is a fairly new artist J Cole who came out a few years ago and he has really become a big mainstream name. Anyway, he is a SJ alumni and graduated magna cum laude if I remember correctly. It's just really cool how he goes to SJ games and shouts out the Red Storm every once in a while. Just thought it was interesting and cool to have one of our own making it so big and still showing love even when he is so huge.

I'm familiar with J. Cole. I wasn't even aware he attended St. John's. I also remember him performing at the Jordan Classic (at the end of the game) in Charlotte last year (although, I didn't stick around to watch).

I do not listen to many of the new acts of today, as it seems it doesn't take much to "get on" nowadays. There are only a handful of artists that I can listen to today. I can't stomach most of the stuff.

By the way, what do you know about DJ Quik?
MJ - The Roots - Undun - Best HipHop concept record last year/this year - agree?

I haven't heard it, purist. I'll attempt to give it a listen. I'm also going to the Peach Jam in another month.

Excellent - all games on ESPNU - I would love to make the 9 hour trip to OD on hoops, but prolly too much recreational travel this summer.

It's gonna be rather hard to televise all games on ESPNU, considering there are generally four games going on at once. Are you sure it's all games or just the semifinals and championship games?

I'm assuming it's the latter. Maybe, you can one day make the trek to North Augusta. You'll certainly enjoy yourself.

Ron Artest is in the video for Nas Is Like and wears a St Johns jersey during it. As far as rappers, Lloyd Banks is a St Johns fan and went to a game last year. I dont know how much of a fan he is but i've seen Jadakiss wearing a St Johns hat. AZ gave a shout out to Malik Sealy too

cole lost a bit of his buzz IMO from his mixtape days...i still prefer those joints 2 the ones on his album. songs like "villematic", "cost me alot" "premeditated murder" & "looking for trouble" r the joints u can google & youtube if u want a good feeling for what j. cole offers. he also need 2 stop beefing wit lil' young azz diggy simmons...that one don't even make no sense 2 me. why even waste ur time......

good 2 see he always talks bout the college days & taking adv of nyc being a down south cat when alota local up & coming rappers take being in nyc for granted.

Premeditated murder and looking for trouble are two of my favorites of his. Good call deac. From what i know that stuff with diggy is pretty much all diggy.

yea i rem hearing he was tight cole mentioned somethn' about being wit one of his sisters but i never really heard the full story...

The story was something like this: J Cole dipped it and split it with Vanessa (Rev Run's daughter) and he had like half a song talking about how she's the daughter of a preacher but freaky in bed and how it's all a front with the good girl image. She denied he ever got with her and all that, Diggy made a diss track and Rev Run tweeted something about how J Cole dissed his fam. I still love J Cole though...Diggy is just another kid riding the coat tails of their famous father.

Yes...Nas is one of my favorite rappers of all time considering he's from Long Island City...he actually did shout out SJ in one of his songs "From St. John's to wake forest, wait for us...straight ballers, you hearin it first". I really wish guys like J Cole, Nas, etc. would wear SJ hats or jerseys though...that would be very very cool. If SJ starts becoming ranked consistently and starts to go past the first round of the tourney, then I think J Cole would be very supportive.

That line is from Nature , another rapper from Queensbridge that was in a group called The Firm with Nas . Alot of those guys root for St. John's ... they grew up with Ron and Reggie Jesse .
