I don't think they'd be required to but I don't see how they wouldn't have.

Definitely not required, but the coach would look like king of the A-holes if he didn't honor the scholarship.

There are some clueless coaches out there though, so maybe it has happened. Probably pre-Internet, though, as the bad press would be overwhelming these days.

Don't forget we are taking about Scott Drew who is the king of the a-holes based on stories of his recruiting tactics.

The school would probably give him a non athletic scholarship to free up the ride for another player.
Yes I've seen it done this way in football. Bama did it with a prospective recruit in football, Elisha Shaw before he even enrolled in school. Put him on a full 4 year scholarship even though he won't be able to play football.

You may question his recruiting ethics but the guy was right there along side Isaiah's mom to break the news...no way he abandons the kid
