Is there any chance...

...that Steve Lavin comes back to coach this Saturday vs. UCLA? I am guessing "no", but would love to hear thoughts by the rest of the posters...

That would be awesome. I wouldn't say there is no chance, but seems unlikely because we haven't heard any updates on his recovery for a while.

That would be a "no". And, if he does that would be a wtf for me.

Question is will he be back in November/December 2012? For our sake, I hope so.

We be %-) if he doesn't.

We are already #-) even if he does come back.

What the chance Harkless comes back? 35%?

Where is Mo going to go? Look at the draft this year...loaded with longer/athletic players...most of whom are more proven. I believe my posts on Harkless being a lottery pick were the first on the boards, but this kid is not a first pound pick THIS season. I think he ends up staying three years.

As for Lavin...the guy's got style. If he recovers well from his long road trip, I expect he'll be on the sideline in a nationally televised game to start up a three-game homestand. That will send a message and get the momentum back on our side.

I agree with the majority of your reply, but I doubt Harkless is here for three seasons. I think he's gone after next season. Time will tell.

Harkless has ZERO chance of leaving after this season imo. Next season its very possible though, but if hes leaving after next season than we would be an NCAA tournament team so im ok with that.

I think the better Q is will he ever coach another game for STJ

Where's he gonna go? Do you have any reason to believe hes leaving?

Zero chance hes not on the bench for us next season.

At this point, I dont think its likely that he'll coach on Saturday, but I'd love to see him at the game at least. Get on the floor before halftime, maybe even sit with the announcers for a few minutes to talk. This would gain positive exposure on a Nat'l Televised game. Not as good for recruiting as being behind the bench, but better than not showing his face at all. Unless Obekpa demanded that Lavin show up for a game on Saturday or something, I can't see how any other recruiting obligation would be more beneficial to the ultimate goals for the program than showing his face on Nat'l TV.

I have heard rumors, he is doing the right thing recruiting for the program but noone can be sure he will be back next season.

usually rumors are rumos.. i am very confidant that he stays... but at least now we have a contingency plan with Tim Cluess.

The question is what do Coach Lavin's doctors say?

That's really all that matters; if they are ok with it then yes he'll come back. If they say no; he won't try to push it like he did the last time around.

Why all this negativity about him not staying the course with St. John's??

.
If. I were he I would listen to his Doctors and stay with the program He is out there recruiting thats good enough for
for me IMO he .will be on the bench next season Dunlap is doing fine

My guess is there is no chance he is on the bench for UCLA. Why would he - he's an SJU man now, and that's history. It would be grandstanding on his part if he did show up for UCLA, and he isn't going to do that.

As long as he is good to go next season, I'm happy - in any event his health comes first, and as long as he's cancer free, that's all that matters to me.

That's so ridiculous.. So he is going to go out and lie to recruits to get them to sign LOI's and once he sets up next years team, he is going to be like, "okay I'm retiring"? That would actually hurt STJ and not benefit them in any way...Think logically about what you're saying there

I don't believe any of these rumors. But it's not as ridiculous as you make it out to be. In most of the rumors he wouldn't be retiring but taking a head coaching job out west. Did Ed Cooley recruit for Fairfield last year before leaving for PC ? He sure did. Did Mark Turgeon give everyone at Texas AM notice he was going to leave for Maryland? No, no he did not. And in fact our own new recruit, J Branch, got "lied to" as you would put it.

It's all in the game. Coaches don't want to lie to recruits, but they're looking out for themselves.

With that said - minus something catastrophic that we haven't heard of - there is no way I don't see coach returning.
