Is the Big East the Right Place for us Now?

Gee, these were the same sentiments during the last year of Norm's tenure, and they went away completely with all the excitement of hiring Lavin. Season ticket sales were up before be even played a game, and his first game there was a great crowd. By this time in his 1st campaign we were nationally ranked, and no one would admit to have advocated such a stupid (but reasonable at the time) thing.

This is our lot. I guess you can give up and go away. A lot of fans have. Or if you know basketball, try to enjoy what's in front of your eyes. When Ponds slipped between a double team at the left of the foul line, leaving both defenders behind, he then beat a third guy who picked him up for a spectacular layup. It was worth the price of may FS1 cable bill for the month.

I'll be there tomorrow.

Beast i just did a post on the "step away from the ledge" thread.
first 3 years norms worst was 3 wins in conf, if Mullin doesn't get 3 wins in the last 10, he'll have done worse then norm not once but twice. Mullin is on pace to be our worst coach ever. Even worse then norm. I'm still a Chris guy, but he better show something next year.

As far as the title of this thread. I know it's asking about Now, but I'll answer this question after 8 games next season, when we have a full roster.

When you hope we have a full roster. Take nothing for granted with this program.

As far as leaving the Big East, that’s blasphemy.

If they ever did drop down they could start the remodeling of CA reducing the number of seats to 2,000.

Figured on this reaction.

Valid question no matter what some may grumble about.
Honestly even if you throw out the uncomfortable question of whether we can be competitive in a major conference, this is not the BE we all grew up with. For me the thought of never leaving changed when Cuse, Uconn and even BC left.
Reaction to the question was pretty overboard. No one insulted your mothers.

But the bright side is all they wpuld need to install is a couple of box air conditioners to keep the place cool.

this is the worst post i have ever read on this site.

still not sure why people think there is any lack of commitment or support from the school/admin.

Again putting beside the competitive issue, so you are saying you guys will miss the rivalries we have with Creighton, Butler and Marquette? Or is not being able to play Depaul twice the deal breaker? Maybe we can convince Gtown to come with us so we can have a familar face in the A-10:D

When Norm was the coach, the Big East was a much larger conference. There was much less parity between the top and bottom teams. In most of his years, we got to play South Florida (almost always bad), Rutgers (always bad), DePaul (almost always bad), and Providence, Cincinnati, and Seton Hall were frequently on a par with us (aka not too good). I also remember far too many games during his tenure where we were down by over 15 (my definition of a blowout) in the first half. In his last year, I had no hopes for the team. I am nowhere near that low point. At this point, it’s not even on the horizon. Norm also started the “all in one class” recruiting that we’re still “enjoying”. I see us pulling out of that rut.

Please do not bring up Norm again.

If you say Norm's name three times into a bathroom mirror he will appear and coach bad basketball until your eyes bleed out of your head. That is the Urban Legend anyway.

I just tried this... he kept saying “ball screen”

I figured would either be you have to give the other team credit or Geno.

Conference prestige is a piss poor reason for staying in a conference where you make the NCAA tourney twice

Maybe. But the school's share of a TV contract worth $500 million is a really good reason to stay.

And why they always will, but hypothetically speaking I think it is a valid discussion. That is if anything hypothetical is valid.

How many years has DePaul sucked in the Big East? I see no reason for St. John's to leave the conference voluntarily. It's a founding member for Pete's sake!
'Losing' begets desperate thinking. We've sucked or been mediocre for most of this Century--about 13 of past 18 years--headed/caused by bad coaches much of the time and / or poor recruiting strategies.
There is no reason under the sky we cannot have a successful Big East caliber program on a consistent basis.
We should stop this 'defeatist' talk. Kills me.
If Seton Hall, Providence, Butler, Creighton, Marquette can field winning teams--I am baffled SJU cannot.
We will.
This is the first year that any blame can be placed on Mullin. And we likely would've been an NIT entrant if LoVett hadn't gotten hurt and 'disappeared. Give our coach a chance.
