Is the A-10 better than the Big East?

Providence beat Georgetown by 18 after they dismantled us. This league is just too deep

Let's not forget GT is a highly flawed team and, for whatever reason, gets whacked on the road. They are not as good as we made them look in that surrender Saturday. I do believe it is a highly competitive league with two excellent teams in Creighton and Nova. Kudos to Cooley for winning impressively with undermanned team. Time for SJU to step up and at least compete with Nova. Anything less speaks volumes.

Providence beating GT doesn't mean the league is deep.

That alone does not. There is alot of parity in this league. Any team from the bottom half (except for maybe depaul) has the talent to compete with the top teams.

Yea I agree Georgtown isnt exactly UCLA in the 70's lol. But they are a solid team and a depleted providence team took them to the woodshed. Big East is still a coaches league. The future is bright with guys like Cooley around. Thats another reason I believe we are better than the A-10 now and going forward. The caliber of our coaches.

After Butler stomps Depaul tonight, STJ and Depaul will be the only teams left in the league without a W.

Not baiting, but where do you rank Coach Lavin in that mix?

Cooley, IMO, falls under that motivator/recruiter mold rather than overall good coach.

I wouldn't be so quick to give him credit, especially since he's done virtually nothing in this conference to speak of.

I think he is a better x and o guy and I give him credit for winning the last Biggest Loser contest. His makeover will be complete when he gets a new barber to "shape" his hair so the map of Italy disappears.

Well I use 3 criteria in evaluating coaches. Recruiting ability, X and O's, and "Juice" or the it factor (PR/Media/fan interaction) and in 2 out of the 3 criteria Lavin is a top 3 coach. X and O's not so much. But Jay wright i think is tops and JT3 not far behind.

Sad but true fact. Hopefully by Saturday Afternoon this will no longer be true.

The A-10 is NOT better than the Big East. The conference is ranked higher in RPI and the Big East crushed the A-10 head to head. In what way are they better? They MAY have more bids than the Big East? That is premature and I would think that number will be relatively even anyway.

In bottom two or three on X&O front.
In top three in PR/Media/Fan Interaction
In top three in recruiting.

That said, the PR category should be weighted less than other factors in my opinion. Buzz Williams, for example, is a strong recruiter and tactician, but not a media maven IMO. I know M'Q is having a tough transition season, but hard to refute his overall success. One may say being in NYC a HC has to be media savy. That may be true, but the other two elements of your evaluation process seem far more important.

I think thats a fair assesment. And your right. But I do wonder if the selection committee is swayed by the big name coaches and programs?

Perhaps the Mike Ks, Bill Selfs, Cals, Pitinos of world get more "eye test" latitude, but they have earned that.

If we put our horses on the floor from the beginning, and play good perimeter D we should be able to win at Home. Imagine this board if we start 0-3

the best PR a team could get is to win. Far more important than what comes out of a coaches mouth.
