Is Mullin >Clyde Drexler

not even close comparison, if Mullin has failed, the rest of us humans would be right with him, with your comparison.

he is still learning, have not given up on him yet.
Still learning? Are we still using that excuse? IMO, it was always a hollow excuse to begin with.
Have spent the last 20 years working with CEOs on turning around their businesses, you would be surprised. Maybe you have turned around a team or enterprise at some point. Ain't easy and it takes time. Not an excuse but an observation, from my experience. Doesn't mean I am right, but not betting on yours either.
Apples and oranges, my man. So, I'd lean towards betting on my observations.

Well, as someone who is not an expert, and who leans heavily on other’s opinions, I have to say, I said this might happen. You may recall, I was a big fan of Cleuss who comes from a coaching family, had a winning record as a recruiter and coach(albeit in a high school program) and was much more of a “people person” than Chris. Those “In the huddle segments, always left me feeling Chris is not a communicator. Lastly, I remember the coaching experience of Larry Byrd, another self made player who couldn’t relate to his players. The image of Chris in his first season sitting on the edge of the scorer’s table still resonates with me. I love Chris, but he is not the coach we need. When we were chasing Lavin, we let the Villanova guy who was interested in us get away. Now we should get Cleuss before some up and coming program grabs him away.

My question for you is how long do we allow coach mullin to “learn” before we hold him accountable for not making the tournament? Because that’s the goal here, to make it to the dance. We all agree Lavin had flaws but even he went 2/5. There’s a good chance we go to bed tomorrow with mullin going 0/4. How long do we wait for him to learn
Jack I know you didn't mean it like this, but the day we stop learning, our careers gave ended, no matter if you are still employed. Coaching is no different.

You know what’s annoying? Watching Ewing get praised and Mullin getting constantly dissed when Ewing actually coaches his team less.

We were not going after Jay Wright when we hired Lavin. Wright was firmly in place at Villanova by then

When he was still the Hofstra coach, Wright had interest in us (and it was mutual from what I understand) in the spring of 2000, when it looked like Mike Jarvis (coming off two very successful seasons) was going to leave for the Washington Wizards. In the end, Jarvis turned them down, so Wright was never extended an offer.

Drexler may actually be unfairly remembered. His two seasons were a disaster at 19-39, but he did land some impressive talent including the #30 RSCI that led the way to his replacement to succeed.

Anyone that thinks an NBA player can just walk in and be a good college coach is a fool. Mullin was not a good hire, but four years later he and his staff are much better off. They achieved what they had to do this season. If they learn from the lack of rebounding it could win me over.

I’m still on the fence. I was giving them this whole season.

We were one solid big man away from 3-4 more wins, which would have made the season a huge success. Had Keita-who I said early on was the X Factor-turned out to be that solid big man, then everyone would be praising Chris right now. Look, I don’t know whether or not Chris is the answer. What I do know is that he’s a hometown hero, he just lost his brother/role model and we’re about to play our first tournament game in a number of years. For those reasons alone, IMO everyone should lay off Chris at least until the season is over. There will be plenty of time to respectfully discuss this subject matter during the off season.

In your opinion would Owens have been enough for those 3-4 more wins?

No. Maybe 1-2 more. Im talking a true low post player on both ends. Didn’t need to be the most talented guy in the world. Basically a Keita type with skills.

I think 3-4 wins is more accurate. Its not because Owens is a world beater but because of the drastic drop off from starters to bench, plus the fact he is 6 11 and Clarks propensity to foul. Not to beat a dead horse. But what if we had Femi, who wanted to come here?
