Is it to early to look at next year?

OK guys, judging by your posts, it IS too early to think about next year.

But, it's hard to imagine being better than this year with Sampson gone.

Being a ST. JOHN'S fan is pure torture.

Take away his 3-4 ugly mistakes a game, his complete lack of defense, and getting pushed around on the block, and replace that with a more traditional big man who will get to more boards, set harder/better screens, and will provide more back-to-the-basket offense and that will mitigate losing Sampson's main contributions. I wish the kid was back, but he is very replaceable. Jordan and Harrison will be the best back court in the conference. Ty Grant or Sampson? Who do you want starting at SF. Grant isn't flashy, but nobody in their right mind picks Sampson over him.

Agreed but Ty Grant's don't grow on trees at this point in the recruiting cycle.

Without Sampson's scoring and shooting at a 50% clip to offset Harrison's and Greene's sub-40% shooting will not be easy. I think unless something amazing happens in terms of roster additions for next season a .500 conference record will be optimistic.

Plain & simple we have a problem that could get worse.I don't subscribe to notion that Lav has recruiting/transfer options in his back pocket so late in the game. Hope I'm wrong, but am extremely concerned about immediate & future success of the program.

It's not too early to look at next year...from a coaching perspective, it's probably a year too late to look at next year.

And how depressing is that thought? I'm not in the mood to lay blame anywhere, just lamenting the fact that we had such high hopes for this group of players. And now it looks like we may never see the Harrison, Jordan, Sampson group in a tournament game.

Next year starting five if we add nobody: Jordan/ Harrison/ Greene/ Jones/ Obepka. Bench : Felix/Branch/Dom/Hooper Wow we need a few bigs.

I would sign up for that lineup today. I think that team could still make the tournament.

Excellent guard play no doubt, but a sprained ankle away from being really thin up front.

Damn haven't felt like this since the Norm era ( and maybe I'm still just angry about how this past season went ) but right now I don't even care about next year.

Hopefully that will change in a few months

May take Lav a month or two to decide on rotation though. ;)

Priceless. Sampson declaring could all be part of Lavin's master plan to make sure PG IV's senior season is as decorated as any player in SJU history, as it guarantees the need for a three-guard lineup which means a heavy dose of PG IV at SF. Not that this would be in question anyway, but now it's locked in.

It also gives Harrison an outside chance at breaking Mullin's record if he takes every shot and the team can make a long run through the NIT.

@NYPost_Brazille: Steve Lavin said his team "matches up very well" with everyone in league despite Sampson leaving. #sjubb

But not Robert Morris.

And not till February

Was thinking with everyone a year older we could upgrade and click in January, but that is offset by no Eurotrip so spot on, probably February again.

He must be drunk. Our frontcourt is Sir Dom and Christian jones. Who is going to score? Rebound? Lavin must have just polished off a magnum of California Cabernet.

Too bad Massiello is off the table.. I can't see how we are going to realistically extend Lavin's contract this way...

Don't want to be reactionary - as I'm generally a Lavin supporter - but if things do go that way, how what level of attractive is Archie Miller?
