Coach Panther NEVER trashes our players, and always sees the upside in them. It's not blind loyalty. He is one of a tiny few allowed into practices.I believe that Darling can get the job done.

Only so much homer-ism I can take, my friend. We all root for the same team. But a little objectivity never hurt anyone
Respectfully don't think it's homer-ism to question IS having a 68% win chance. We are essentially ranked the same as Iowa State and their victory over Miss. State doesn't look all that impressive as they were also blown out by Kansas State and lost to New Mexico.Only so much homer-ism I can take, my friend. We all root for the same team. Let's get to 1-1 firstThoughts I’ve got for Iowa state
- How do we fare vs a defensive minded team?
- We’re 0/1 vs top lead guards. Can we go 1/2?
Do you think Mitchell is an off the bench guy? I could be wrong but he plays pretty big and appears to me to be a glue guy who can fill a stat dheet without scoring a ton of points.I just think it was a bit of a tell that Mitchell said he never saw it coming. It's not like it was a formal vote by the players. I think Rick understands that with a guy like him who's started basically every college game they've participated in, you can't just have him off the bench on a more permanent basis despite great leadership/hustle/practice stuff, without making a serious declaration of leadership somewhere else. He said earlier in the week that managing minutes would be the toughest challenge all year, I think he saw making Mitchell captain has one way to ease the internal pressure of his minutes a little bit.
And, to be clear, Mitchell 100% seems like an A++ leader and worthy captain. I just think its both.
In terms of Ayo, he became captain after the Bahamas episode when the team was spiraling a bit with chemistry. It wasn't compensatory, it was raising up a leader of the team and making guys focus on the right traits.
I think best version of this team, he's playing 25mpg. I actually do believe Rick when he says he doesn't care about who starts games, but he knows players do. Probably depends on matchup/opponent/game, but in March, I kinda think we'll end up with Darling/Jackson/Sanon/Hopkins/Zuby has the final five closing it out. Maybe Mitchell subs Darling out for defense.Do you think Mitchell is an off the bench guy? I see tri captains as a Pitino design to have middke managers - three guys who are all in that will lead by word and example.
Open to other opinions though.
Agree! It is minutes, especially at crunch time, not who starts. Pitino has said this a hundred times.Do you think Mitchell is an off the bench guy? I could be wrong but he plays pretty big and appears to me to be a glue guy who can fill a stat dheet without scoring a ton of points.

We'd be crazy not to have Sellers in at the end of close games as he is by far our best free throw shooterI think best version of this team, he's playing 25mpg. Yup. And sometimes situation specific. Kadary was a mess at the line last year but we had him in all the time at the end because of everything else he brought. With a Mitchell I’m sure game context and matchups will play a role.Agree! It is minutes, especially at crunch time, not who starts. Pitino has said this a hundred times.
You made this something not intended. I was simply questioning how they arrived at any metrics given limited data.Maybe it's based on "they are better than we are?". I mean other than playing in a better conference, being more highly ranked, having a better OOC win thus far than we do, probably having the best player on the court in the game, and being more together as a team at this point than we are, I can't think of a reason.
A lot of St John's ranking is Pitino, hype, and potential at this point IMO.
I think that Pitino plus development may eventually get closer to the hype (despite obvious flaws with the roster). And we might win this game. But totally reasonable for any given metric to favor Iowa State.
Still there's a reason they play the games, but to me the game is a coin flip at best
6'4 with the Afro 6'9"I’m 6.4 draw your own conclusions on Darling. Dillon kinda verifies my height if he’s 6.6
NYCREDMANS height is very open to debate. lol
Opening line is Iowa State -1.5.I'd have us as 1.5-2 point fave.
Guess I’m pretty good at thisMy guess is we open as 1.5 point dogs
