Iona trying to get on our schedule

I heard from a very good source that Iona would be honored if SJU scheduled them next year at MSG, does anyone know our OOC schedule for next year have any dates/opponents been locked up. I think Tim Cluess team would be a nice test for the Redmen next year.

If he was going to schedule them it would not be at MSG unless it was part of the holiday festival.

In the past, (post Louie, before CM) I was always afraid that an early game vs Iona under Cleuss was a sure recipe for disaster. Now, I'd love to see that game.

No reason to schedule them at MSG. We need big draws at MSG, and just about every opponent wants to play there. There are Big East teams that don't even get MSG. Playing Iona is fine, but certainly not at MSG.

It might just be me but this match up doesn't excite me. I'd rather see another yearly match set up with one of our former Big East foes like we do with Cuse.

We need to schedule our out of conference games with the Kentucky and Duke's of the world. We shouldn't be wasting our time with teams like Iona.

There is nothing in it for St. John's. Iona doesn't draw any fans, so MSG is out. It would be their Super Bowl and just another game for us. That is always a recipe for disaster.

Who is your source, Baldi?

I wouldn't even play them in the first round -- get two well-known names to pair with us and Iona, and if we both win (or lose), then they get the matchup they've been clamoring for.

Gonzaga in the Holiday Fest would be a big draw, I think.

Us, and about 350 other D1 teams want Kentucky and Duke.

Kentucky would be a near impossible get. They don't need MSG, because they draw anywhere.

We played Gonzaga at the garden and they weren't a good draw.

Was at the pre season NIT finals last year when we played Gonzaga. Very good game played in front of less than 5,000 people.

Yikes, didn't realize it drew that little.

I am assuming Mullin will initially draw in a lot of casual/previously alienated fans, though. Hopefully we play well enough to keep them if they come.

I think everyone would want to play us. Cal is a NE guy and MSG is a venue like no other. He respects the history of St. John's and the Garden. Plus, it is pretty fertile recruiting grounds any coach would like to be more visible in.

Plus he owes us for Briscoe.

He still owes the Briscoes for Briscoe. Need to settle that debt first. Thanks, thanks. I'll be here all week. ;)

Based on photos of briscoes attire, I think cal paid that already.
