Have to remember as well guys, injuries can and will happen throughout the course of a season. Good to have some younger guys who step up if called upon

One thing last year taught me, Rick will give guys a shot. Players will get to be on the floor, the question will be if they show him enough to stay on the floor. For Brady, this probably means knocking down catch and shoot 3's at a good clip. For the freshmen, it probably means showing defensive capabilities.

This is something that kept Sim off the court last year. He had games where he would come in and immediately either pick up multiple fouls, or get scored on. Rick doesn't have a lot of patience for that, if he feels a freshman is getting exposed on that end, he will make the change.

There's definitely a significant learning curve going from high school basketball to a Rick Pitino coached team. Cracking the rotation as a frosh is unlikely, as freshmen usually have to get used to the physicality needed to play defense in the Big East. A lot of the time their bodies aren't quite ready for that. Glover is an interesting one to watch in this regard cause I feel like he already looks much stronger/filled out than he did in his high school clips. Still an uphill battle for him to be a major contributor this year, but I could see him working his way into being on the "RJ Luis Foul Trouble Response Team" if needed 😂

Funny how many to me still choose to envision Dunlap as primarily a 3 point shooter; me, I think he turned the UConn game around almost single-handedly, not with his shooting but with his hustle and refusal to be in the least bit intimidated by the opponent or the moment.
Now it was one half of one game, as Pitino, IMO foolishly, chose to not use him in the 2nd half, so it was what it was and nothing more or less but I think the kid may be much more than the easy way out stereotype many are pigeon holing him into. We shall see…….,

Agree, he not only hustles, but moves well w/o the ball and feeds the post adroitly. I think he has a good sense of the game.

It’s not that Dunlaps only asset is his 3pt shooting, it may just be hard to justify playing him over other guys IF his three isn’t falling semi-consistently

He did show some good flashes last season of a more all around game

Can’t argue w not hitting shots putting him a challenging situation re PT, but just noting his overall versatility, hustle & solid instincts.

I agree with everything Paultzman and logen posted. I think Dunlap brings more to the table than just his three point shooting. Last year I saw him grab key rebounds and he doesn't shy away from diving for loose balls.
Can't argue with any of that, but let's face it Brady is never going to be a defensive stopper or big rebounder for his decent size. If he doesn't hit open shots, his minutes will be limited.

Why should his time be the only one predicated on or qualified by 3 point shooting? If he earns the time in practice and takes advantages of that time by playing good all-around basketball, he should play.

Again, why? I seem to remember Dunlap doing a better job on Spencer in the 1st half than anyone on the Johnnie’s. His defense improved immeasurably over the course of the season.

According to Dunlap's ESPN stats, he averaged 1.5 rebounds per game playing only 12.5 minutes per game. Others can check my math but that averages to 4.8 rebounds per game as a freshman who needed to put on weight and get stronger which I think he's done since last season. So I think he's capable of getting a big rebound when necessary.

Logen totally respect your opinion and clearly you have coached and played at far higher levels than I ever hoped to.
But having watched lots of hoops for my lifetime and believing I am somewhat measured in my opinion, I would say that Brady’s main competition for minutes (Scott and RJ) are much better rebounders and better suited to defend at the 3 and 4 so Brady needs to do other things better to compete for minutes especially shoot and pass. But what he hell do I know?

I agree, I can see him playing some stretch 4 this season.

Thanks, but we both are stating the same, opinion, neither is any more valid than the other. I believe in competition and if I boiled down my feeling about Dunlap, I believe he has the all around ability to compete for real minutes on this team.

The list of top 20-60 ranked players that didn't play right away is even longer. We are also in a new era with the NIL and unlimited transfers.
Wouldn't you agree that if Pitino was able to pick up a Deivon Smith and Kadary Richmond, Sosa and Jerry Smith would have likely been in the 8-12 mpg range? No way Pitino rolls the dice on two freshmen when he could have the pick of the litter nationally with upperclassmen.

Earl Clark, a first round pick after his junior year and the #24 recruit in his class, only played 16 mpg as a frosh. Peyton Siva played 11. Kuric played 5. #26 recruit in his class, Wayne Blackshear, played 6. Second round pick, Russ Smith, played 5.

Glover's path is largely blocked with this year, but it really opens up when Smith, Richmond, Scott, and possibly Luis depart after the season.
He won’t take minutes away from Richmond or Smith I agree. I think he’ll be squarely in the mix to take whatever’s left behind those two though.

I have would add to this by saying he is a coach's player, with the mentality of being a leader on the floor.

If you noticed, when Brady is on the floor, at nearly every stoppage in play especially free throws, he makes sure he gets to the bench to check in with Coach for instruction or chat.

Jay Wright loved these types and called Gillespie and Arch "coaches on the floor". Obviously Brady not their yet but he is the kind of kid coaches love, who take and absorb instruction readily. At some point soon, he will lead.

I spoke to Brady and told him how I loved that he was always scrapping under the boards often giving up 30 pounds or more to the big guys but not backing down. He smiled and said, "I really appreciate you saying that", and repeated that appreciation for effect. He then said something to the effect of all my life I've been the skinny white kid and when I got hit I flew. He smiled broadly and said "I've put on 25 lbs, lost 6 six we started workouts but now when I hit people they move!"

Wouldn't be shocked if his rebounds per minute go up by as much as 30-40%.

Great kid. Like many, very easy to root for. I mentioned to him how some of his teammates are making major NILs and he laughed and said when they go out they're paying for the ubers.

Also a coach's son. that type is usually well schooled in fundamentals.
