With so many new pieces it is tough to account for everyone's roles and output. Ian might be the hardest out of all of them for me. I think he's gonna score and score well, but that could be low teens as secondary option or even high teens if he makes a jump. Then there is the Double D situation. No not Dylan Darling -- Distribution and Defense. The former being mostly an unknown and the latter being a necessity if he wants mega minutes.

Regardless, I'm so excited to see him perform back in NY and I'm not sure if we've seen a player to date that more embodies a "Pitino" recruit. We just weren't getting a guy like Ian 3 years ago.



 
My prediction for him is:
-- Biggest shock is not how he is at "primary ball handler" but how good he is of a defender. He didn't show any of it last year, but this seems to be something he's already improving on & he's in a system that will demand accountability.
-- The offensive transition is tough at first, and there's speculation on the board of maybe he'll return. But he is the annual "guy that emerges in the new calendar year" on the roster (aka Ledlum and Kadary in years past).
-- Averages 14.4 points (;)) but leads the team with like 18 in Big East play. Takes over some games on his own.
-- He averages 2.5 assists on the nose. Rebounding won't be there.
-- Will be more of a true coin-flip NBA draft decision than people expect due to how deep it is, how much growth there can still be with him handling the ball, and how much money he can get returning & actually being "the guy". Mock draft watch will begin in earnest after Thanksgiving.

I'm with you except I think he averages a bit more than 14.5 ppg.
 
I am not sure he will lead using scoring but I am pretty sure he will be our most exciting player to watch. I acexpect better than advertised defense from Jackson. We need to create turnovers and score of them and hi length and athleticism will be helpful.

Ian obviously has a ton of talent. As Pitino noted, his on the ball D and consistency on that end will be his targeted area of improvement imo. He’ll receive much better individual coaching here than UNC, so I’m confident he will be a better defender this season.
 
I’m going 13 pts, 3 rebs, 2 asts and a good shooting year. I think that could be a great season even if numbers aren’t eye opening. I don’t necessarily see the nba game that some see for him and I think he’ll be our highest paid guy next season where hill get a bigger opportunity to run the show and he’ll be much more ready for it.

some things i noticed from watching:

offense: Ian made some nice shots and some good passes, also a few bad shots. Not putting much stock on offense because it seemed like everyone was just working on their isolation moves.

defense: seemed like Ian was actually working defensively. a handful of good defensive plays keeping the man in front and swiping at the ball

rebounding: didnt look like he had any intentions of rebounding or boxing out. hopefully that was just because it was runs and he shows some effort there during the season

Laid back run, but there are a few things that are clear here: (1) Ian will not rebound well...he is not a rugged player at all and he wanted no part of any contact; (2) he can certainly get his own looks when he wants. He needs to be careful with that if he wants to be considered a PG. If I was in that game, I would have been frustrated with the # of times he took shots without letting others touch the ball.

Jackson, Sanon, and Hopkins all have the ability to create good shots for themselves out of thin air.
