I Think We Could Be Recruiting Better Thread

Wasn’t really knocking Pitino just pointing out that your previous post didn’t make much sense. But great rant 😂

For the record I see nothing wrong with feeling that the recruits to date have been a little underwhelming. Hopefully, we can reel in a few bigger fish with the last few spots. Pitino himself said he was going to turn things around in a few weeks and he still can.
And there is nothing wrong with it; I just don’t understand expressing opinions about players one has never seen play and projecting opinions as absolutes on how said players will play as a team.
The difference being, I have no idea if he hasn’t already turned it around because I freely acknowledge I don‘t know what I don’t know. But I am always impressed with people who know what they don’t know and always wonder how they do it.
We just disagree……..

That is enlightening. I suppose he didn't know this coming in when he promised a rebuild in months. Now I am at ease. Partly serious since I'm not really worked up about it - I personally like the back and forth banter, it's like going into a bar for a fun conversation, and most of you are drunk most to the time as well. I don't take it all too seriously. Back to the point, you need NIL to compete, we all know that. Hope it eventuates. And to Logen talking about recruiting mid majors I would counter at least get the top mid major players, on their teams if not in their conferences, though I'm sure that is NIL drive as well. But that was my expectation. I guess that makes me delusional. I still am happy he's here and hope that the class of '24 is a big upgrade over the class of '23 and starts to move the needle. Pitino has an expiration date and we all know he has a lot of work to do, no one works/lives forever.
I don't mind the friendly jab. I think most here expected an immediate flow of top players, and a season similar to Kansas State who had 9 incoming players last year. Pitino is definitely at about the top in terms of knowing what he needs to do and what has to happen here to enable him to do it. If Repole is serious about major NIL funding, at least potential transfers could be told that money will be there sometime before the season gets underway. I'm not even certain exactly what a coach can and cannot say to a transfer or hs recruit about potential NIL $, but you can be certain they ask way early in the process.

I think most are basing it on the rankings (by people who have seen them play) of the players we have signed. Some might also base it on who else was recruiting the player.

I understand that, but however rankings are arrived at, I still think the only way to reasonably judge recruiting is when a team takes the court; as I said, we just disagree……

I say this in mostly jest and slight seriousness. Vincent Van Gogh, picaso and other great artists should be very greatful they didn’t create their masterpieces while streaming live on the internet. Now I know pitino isn’t creating a masterpiece as he only had what he had/has at his disposal since his hiring. But you get my point. Can you imagine one of our members tell Van Gogh hey I wouldn’t use that shade or color there!!! It won’t work and it will turn out so bad. This one is better. Ha!!

This post mostly is a joke so don’t get all crazy…..but it does have a little bit of seriousness in it lol.

The only thing I would tell Van Gogh is “ stop playing with that Knife , you will cut your Ear off!”

Pitino’s results on the court will be greater than the sum of his players talents.

Coach Anderson’s results on the court were less than the sum of his players talents.
I hear you Otis. Kind of crazy but I noticed all the players this past season looking unprofessional on the court. They would have their jersey's untucked and down the stretch they would start the game with jersey's untucked. Thpught NCAA had a rule on this type of thing? I emailed AD Cragg had he responded by saying to keep the fire for rooting for St. John's almost as if he noticed it too. lol In one game, I noticed a ref gesture to tuck your shirt back in but I blame this on Coach Anderson. He lost control of his players in this department. Pretty sad when we had at least 4 players actually start the game like that. If there isn't a rule then oh well, maybe I am being too picky but think it looks professional to have your uniform in line!
