Well not me really, but a lot seemingly do. And that’s fair. So let’s talk about it.

- My expectations within the first month of what our team would look like at this point were higher than what we have seen.

- Nothing that’s happened recruiting wise makes me think Pitino won’t be able to get it done in terms of acquiring talent to win at sju. It’s been a month.

- I don’t think that getting the roster from where it stands right now on 4/20 to being considered top 6-7 talent wise in BE is insurmountable. You hope a coach like Pitino can out perform the individual talent level. Not turn water into wine, but maybe turn the Whopper into Five Guys (preferably some starters).

- If after 8-10 months, Pitino and his staff can’t identify and build relationships with 7-10 solid HS recruits and convince 3-4 of them to come to SJU, then maybe we can worry then. Still, I probably won’t.

- My expectations on the court for year #1 were to be competitive in the BE. With the floor being last years team. Making the tourney would be gravy. In short, I don’t want the season to be over in late January.

- Get us ranked for a stretch or make the tourney within first 2 years with obvious trajectory going up.

- Obviously, more would be GREAT.

Sensible as usual Mase

How many seasons have we been good in a current teenager's lifetime?

We probably have to win first. Do I think we can win with what we are shaping up as? With Pitino here, yes. Will we win enough to get Fland, a decommitted Jackson, Edgecombe, etc.? TBD.

I expect to make the tournament every year starting this season with Rick. That is the floor

Hard to argue that this has been anything but a disappointing start and I think even Pitino would admit that on truth serum. Missed out on the top two most attainable targets in Clayton and Ledlum, where getting one or both of those guys would completely change the outlook of the roster right now. Then other really good players that the staff showed interest in but never had a real chance on like Timberlake, Bamba, Ryan, Luis etc. Not even mentioning how he invited Storr to stay but he chose to leave.

All that said, there's still plenty of reason to be extremely optimistic going forward. Still 5 spots to fill and while I don't know how close we are on any of the few impact guys available he can still find some solid pieces. I think Demary is a crucial target right now as he's somebody that can contribute right away and be a guy to develop and build around for the next few years. No clue where we stand on him though. Hoping we land some multi-year guys because we're looking at another complete roster overhaul this time next year with the way things stand now

I'm with you but that being said, believe Pitino could take a group and mold them into a team that each one plays their role as a unit. Hopefully within the next few weeks he signs a couple of big guns. To be continued... That is what is so crazy about Calipari, he absolutely has the recruiting downpacked. While at Memphis even, Derrick Rose etc.... Was it kind of a late start to piece things together for Pitino? no excuses, wait and see.

If you were going for sarcasm I apologize, ignore the next part of this post. I would 100% agree with this. The powers that be at St. John's essential decided to pony up a lot of money from their coffers and go 'all in' on a big splashy coaching hire. I can't imagine when they committed a minimum of $30M but more likely close to $41M (factoring in CMA buy out), they signed up for a multi year rebuild. It's especially frustrating when you see how Georgetown who was in the exact same position as us (2 NCAA in the last 10 years, going 'all in' on a splashy hire) had some much immediate success in the portal and with traditional recruits.

The same tourney that UNC missed this year?
That's the one. Heck Gonzaga hasn't missed that tournament at all since Mark Few has been coaching. They are a university with a religious affiliation, have a small endowment, and a HOF coach. If they can do it, there is no reason that shouldn't be the expectation.

While I am not 100 percent happy with recruiting to date, I am 100 percent happy with the Pitino hire and do not worry that Georgetown will finish above us next year.

I don’t have a problem with a single player he’s brought in, but we currently don’t have one top 100 recruit. That’s wild even for St. John’s.

If we landed his top 4 highest ranked targets remaining this would still be the least talented roster on paper that he’s had at a high major since the inception of the RSCI.

If the expectation was to make it every year after we get there first, I’d think it much more reasonable.

Who do we honestly think we are? There’s two teams playing out there every night, each trying to do the same thing. Nova missed it last year. Jay Wright missed it. Coach K missed it. Kentucky’s missed it. Xavier missed it 4 years in a row. It’s not a guarantee for anyone.

Is this factoring in Soriano as a potential all American candidate?

I have been a little dissatisfied but also understand the POV that we should wait until the roster completely is filled. That is fair.

I just want to win. As I’m sure you all do. So I want us to have great players who can go out and beat big East opponents. That’s my concern

Marillac when you talk about top 100 recruits, assume you’re talking about HS rankings which I agree makes sense for HS recruits like Demary and Dunlap. But when it comes to guys from the transfer portal, the rankings become irrelevant compared to how they’ve performed in college, especially at high major level, imho.
