I miss the old Redmen site

I’m pretty sure no one will agree with me on this subject (as I grow older, in fact, this seems to be happening a lot) That said, I have to say I really miss the old Redmen site, which I recall was put up in protest of the school changing the mascot. The old site didn’t have ads, and the threads seemed to me to be much easier to follow in the old days. Also, I miss Fun and Pete Birdsall and the others who don’t seem to post as much. More than that, I really liked the old site’s stat guide which was very helpful and let this old timer test his memory of past games. I remember that it was promised that feature was going to be brought back. It never was. I am still a reader and I keep in touch with 5 or 6 guys my age who are big fans of the program. We used to go to dinner every year and go to a Holiday Festival game when that was a big thing at 8th Avenue and 50th Street. I miss that too. Sorry because you younger guys probably don’t find anything wrong

Unfortunately the stats database was lost as part of a major issue Paul had and the man hours required to rebuild it would no doubt have been substantial, but if you would like to volunteer to rebuild it that would be great. Otherwise this might be a good resource for you.

PS if you don't like ads give Paul a bunch of money and he'll take them off the site. How much would it take Paul?

PPS Promised? Gosh I'm starting to want you to get hit by a car.

Eff Fun. You can find him on the other site (as he and a couple others are doing a good job ruining it).

I see austour channeling his inner Fun.

Yeah Fun wasn’t an old-time member. My biggest pet peeve is all the people who have changed their handle multiple times. Littlemmin is who now? Kranmars was another name. It made it soo confusing when everybody decided to switch handles. My request is that everybody go back to their old handles so I have a clue about who is who agin... I’ve Been mcnpa since aol dial-up. Rant over...lol

I don't agree. Overall, I think the new site is an improvement. It was a rough transition, as I am sure most updates not done by a cooperation are. Ultimately, Paul set up a thread for feedback and was very responsive. I like to visit the message board of other teams and Redmen.com compares favorably......in my opinion.

Lastly......Fun is a troubled soul.

I used to be littlemin but I should not be hard to identify through a name change, I am still the same opinionated, argumentative, confrontational a**hole I always was. :p :p

Been a reader for 20 years but only been posting since I retired in 2017. I love the site. Don't miss Fun's mean spirited crap at all. Went to Johnny Jungle once or twice out of curiosity and have not had any desire to go back. Great job by Paul & our moderators imho.

Yeah the crap ring spewed over there by him and a few other posters caused me to walk away from that site.

Most of the old features which were a custom interactive database that we put together before most of the modern sports sites even existed, have in fact been rebuilt and some of it improved. There have also been some new features added. I have not featured it on the site for a few reasons. One is that keeping the stats up to date is a big job. To keep any particular feature updated requires a commitment and I no longer have the staff nor the funds to subsidize employees doing the work. In the early years I had both employees and volunteers working on the site. ESPKEN alone, is responsible for thousands of volunteer hours over the years. He has also recently contributed to updating the players database. This, any fan level member can access by clicking "Players" up on the pulldown menu on the top right where it says "Hello, (your name)"
The direct link is:https://redmen.com/players.html

If you are not a fan level member or are not logged in, you will see listings but not all of the content including stat info.

There are also some other active features such as the schools and venues databases which we tie into the calendar. These are not featured either but are integrated in less direct ways. If you follow the in-season game listings they are linked from the listings. For example game listing:
https://redmen.com/all-events/110-mensbasketball-vs-marquette2018.html

You can click through to individual school listings and venue listings.
Like the school page:
https://redmen.com/database-1/ncaa-schools/476-marquette.html
If you continue drilling down from some of these features you can see related listings like teammates of particular players in the player listings and click through to them. In the venues you can click through to other things that are geographically nearby for example if you wanted to visit a restaurant near an arena...

PS if you don't like ads give Paul a bunch of money and he'll take them off the site. How much would it take Paul?

PPS Promised? Gosh I'm starting to want you to get hit by a car.[/quote]

Redmen.com user life improvement hack:
If you are logged in you see less ads. If you are a Fan level member you see less ads than a Rookie level. I could setup some kind of user level with no ads. You'd have to be logged in for it to be effective but it could be achieved.

Otherwise I'd be open to a corporate sponsorship to minimize the ads or some random billionaire making redmen.com ad-free for the benefit of all our friends...

I should probably remain quiet, but I do not see any ads. Not complaining mind you!

The ad implementation is relatively minimal and unobtrusive. I do not an have not ever done any of the really intrusive ads like the ones that takeover a page. I was recently approached by a sports network to take over ads on the site. It was considerably more revenue than the site produces but I chose not to because they take complete control of the ad implementation.

Not to be combative but the post to start this thread is horseshit! Nobody should take this site and Paul for granted if you ask me.

It’s a huge part of my fandom and my wife’s aggravation. A win/win if you ask me fellas!

Oops! Is that a DONATE Button at the top. It's time for me to ante up.

Agree. Dropped a little thanks in the donation box. Paul, you know how much I enjoy and appreciate the site. Thanks for making this place possible...

With all due respect to everyone any complain is misguided unless you are bucking up to help a Paul with the costs and even then it’s a pittance compared to the time he puts in personally to keep this site up. I barely have enough time to watch porn after work
